Re: Southern Garage Layout [latest pics page 31]

I love the amount of running track .......... only one thing Mumbles old son, will you live long enough (and you are quite young) to paint all that track rusty and add ballast everywhere ??? I'd come and offer only I wore my paint brush out doing mine and I don't have an airbrush. Don't think you ca...

Re: Two Short Planks

At last working on the very steep rocky hill, a framework of 9 mm sq beading. This will have a farm track running alonng the very top and a few sheep grazing. The balsa framework on the big oil tank is for forming up the domed top. Can't decide if I should put safety railings around the top edge ???...

0121 Well hung women would be better than any pictures !!

Brilliant fine detail work again - puts me to shame - all I did was stick a figure in an empty 'Metcalfe' shell by a window ....... do I lack imagination ?????

Re: Two Short Planks

Hi Leopard, I cut the hardboard using my wife's fine point saw - very clean blade (before I got hold of it !) I used a factory cut square corner to start from and then measured many, many times from different points until I thought I had it spot on. It's within a mm, just a bit tight on platform 2, ...

Re: Two Short Planks

Hi Dead Man's Handle, I sawed about half an inch off each side - enough to get them to fit together within the space, then glued together. The buffers were also too high so I trimmed a small amount off the base. They're located on a block of wood that was an almost exact fit to the central void. The...

Re: Two Short Planks

Well, been doing lots of ballasting ..... Today as a change I've been doing some more work on the Metcalfe station. Now all I have to do is chimneys and ridge tiles, oh and a little more weathering. https://image.ibb.co/mnNuyR/IMG_1256.jpg I suppose this also shows up that the modified Hornby hydrau...

Tried some photography ...... https://image.ibb.co/dUXPXm/IMG_1252.jpg Looking through the Metcalfe station to the night train. https://image.ibb.co/ez6Xk6/zz1.jpg Class 6 about to move stock for the next train out Still have to p...

Re: 1st layout for mr.duffin

Looks like Exhibition standard is well within your reach .......... I was/am still an aircraft modeller - here is my 1/72 Vickers Valiant from a Mach2 kit that has a bad reputation - all the markings done at home on the computer as no suitable items were available comercially. http://i191.photobucke...

Re: 1st layout for mr.duffin

I don't see a comment as to this being DCC or being a 12V analogue track? From a personal point of view I've gone DCC (using the sometimes criticised Select unit) as I can control 14 points motors and have up to 8 - 10 locomotives 'live' on the layout - all controlled though a single plug in flylead...

Re: 1st layout for mr.duffin

Looking good - always worth taking your time. So the final plan is 12 feet by 18 inches? About a big as you can lay in the avarage lounge. Are you going to have standing on tresles?

Re: A new start...Hairy's new layout!

Looks interesting - you don't know how lucky you are with that space. I'd also love to have long trains, I can only get 3 coaches alongside my platforms!

Re: Another One... updated with pics (2008-12-14)

DCC is the future ! Glad I went to a model club before I started as DC was the first idea - all those isolated sections - ouch ! Now I can run 3 loco's at once as I did today for a short while today and change my points through my Select unit (nice & cheap) with just one plug in flylead ..... An...

Re: Two Short Planks

This is the rather 'over the top' support structure under my platforms, still have the ramp to construct for the central platform. https://image.ibb.co/fH2SJR/IMG_1251.jpg My entire coaching stock in the station end - Hey this is a shunting layout and not a wagon in sight ........ No flash so the Lo...
