Re: Hornby Steampunk models

It really plays to individualism and the things the enthusiast can dream up for themselves, not something mass produced. The item I saw and most liked was a keyboard and screen given the treatment. The screen was mounted in an ornate wooden cabinet with brass fittings and a large on-off lever on th...

Re: Hornby Steampunk models

I read a comment saying that the "steam punk" layout from "the Great British Railway off" is quite popular at shows and the like, and I think the guys youtube is quite popular that being said, I really don't understand this range Hornby have brought out, now I'm not entirely sure...

Re: Michaela's Layout

I'm very interested in the build your own pointwork idea and would like to hear how you get on. I'm still undecided on it, the layout already features points I've built myself, and they seem to work okay so far, but I still don't feel I'm up to the standard where they could operate reliably on the ...

Re: BARGAINS!

Not sure if this'll be everywhere, but Asda, in Trafford park, have basic Hornby train-sets for £25 HR pug loco, 2 wagons and a small oval of track with 3rd radius curves Controller looks really basic Think they might be unsold black Friday stock, saw them for £60 a few months ago, I considered gett...

Michaela's Layout

hello forum, and welcome to my new layout its roughly 3.5 by 3 meters, 00 gauge and loosely set up north somewhere in the BR steam era here are some photos of where I've gotten up to Fiddle Yard I think one of my stumbling points of previous layouts is that I've never properly put enough thought and...

Re: What was your first model train?

I had a clockwork percy, the one with the weird orange plastic track, and I must've been about 4/5, I still have the track and wagons but not long after getting it the loco was accidentally left outside one rainy night and the mechanism rusted My first real model train was a Hornby Flying Scotsman t...

Re: Greater Loftchester

took a break from the layout cause I had a bunch of other stuff I needed to get back on track (lol) and also because I was feeling a bit jaded with how the layout was progressing, once again I was really happy with certain areas, but there were a few bits I wish I'd done differently or taken a bit m...

Re: Michaela’s workbench, building buildings

Nice looking Terrace, Michaela. I seem to remember a while ago you showed us some kits you had made up and painted. Are you still planning on using these within your station? yes, when I eventually get round to it I plan to use everything, I'd never really built many kits before so building a bunch...

Re: Greater Loftchester

after putting off some jobs for a while I've started getting back on with finishing the terminus, I've decided I'm going add about 30cms to the end of the board to allow for run around loops here's where I've got to so far https://live.staticflickr.com/7845/32667289687_4e7ebbb6a5_b.jpg

Re: what do you hope to achieve from your model railway?

I was in no way bashing any train set stuff btw, I still buy them every now and then (if theres a good deal) as its nice to just have something basic you can set up in 5 mins and run wherever, don't really think that hornby advert sells that notion either though In fairness I think it all comes down...

what do you hope to achieve from your model railway?

so I happened to watch Hornby's latest video on youtube, and I couldn't help but think "everything in this video looks rubbish" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz8j4NxIz18 ) obviously that's just my opinion and is ultimately meaningless in the grand scheme of things, but it made me wonde...

Re: Hornby R1233 The Coca-Cola Christmas Train Set 2019

unless Hornby are getting some sort of sponsorship money from coke for doing I really don't understand the point in this, or why people actually seem to want it, just looks like gimmicky nonsense to me
