Re: Track underlay.. Cork or foam?
But doesn't real track sit on top of a layer of ballast? Around 300mm on high speed main lines? Admittedly, 3mm Track-bed works out at somewhat more than that...Grahame wrote:Check out real track and replicate that.

Re: Printing out full size any rail plans?
I was going to ask about printing off track plans 1:1 and whether this was a good way of laying curves? Few of my radii correspond to a tracksetta, so I was wondering what the best method was of getting smooth curves...

Re: Code 55 sleepers
That's the sort of excellent tip that would have been useful to a noob like me before he bought 10 packs of sleepers (i.e. 240 in total). A single piece of flexi must have close to 200 sleepers; considerably cheaper!

Re: Am I being a bit dense?
The coaches are in the GF 2010 catalogue. They are:
374-331 - TS
374-355 - TFD
374-380 - TCC
374-405 - TGS
According to the GF web site, they are due to be available Aug/Sept. I don't understand why, if the TS is in the box set, they aren't already available separately...

Re: Railroad model shopping on railroad stations?
There's one on Aviemore station, but I guess that's because the Strathspey Railway is there. Just on the station or the entramce is from the street? Just on the station. It's on the platform between the main line and the preserved line. I think it may be part of the souvenir shop for the Strathspey...

I'm never bored either, looking at pictures of others' layouts and stock, please do keep them coming. I just wish the photos were a bit bigger!

Have you considered the MERG DCC decoder kits, which work out at £2.50 per point?

Re: NEM 651 Decoders
I now have eight 36-558 decoders fitted and they are a NIGHTMARE, until correctly programmed I now use a Dapol Class 66 to program them Once programmed I then remove them from that and put them in the correct item! Could you expand on what you mean by "correctly programmed", please? I put...

Re: Farish New Mk 1 coaches
They're not designated "Blue Riband" in the catalogue or on the web site, so I believe this means they are from pre-2000 tooling.
Actually, 374-181 don't seem to be listed in the catalogue or the web site at all.

Re: OO layout size
The Sprinter set has arrived, and I'm very pleased with it. I don't think I'll have any problems with N-scale, it's not as tiny as I'd imagined, and I think I'll give it a go - now to start on the layout design!
Many thanks for all the advice.

Re: OO layout size
I've ordered the Farish Sprinter DMU set from Hattons so I can get some sort of feel for whether I'd be happy with N gauge.
