Just bought a Hornby 9F, and this seems to have a similar directional bias.
Perhaps pickups on one side are better than the other.

Re: Brexit Affects Model Prices

I don't really want any of the RTR makers to go bust. Definitely, the more manufacturers, the broader the spectrum of products.

Re: Replacement 00 carriage wheels

Yes, they are surprisingly terrible. Not quite the quality I expected from Dapol, compared with the new Class-73 I bought, so I'll be interested in the answer as well.

Re: Choc blocks

Oh well. I thought they looked neater, and nothing's failed yet. Also, with all the times I needed to undo them again - worked for me. Particularly useful in my situation as much of my wiring ended up in terrible accessible places, so placing wires in blocks tended to be done by feel. Trust me, sold...

Re: Choc blocks

I realise this is a relatively old thread, but I felt I needed to add a tip re bared wire ends and blocks. I would always recommend tinning any and all bared wire ends with solder. This ensures a much better bite within blocks, and does away with the danger of losing wire strands due to screwing the...

Perhaps Mr Mark Carney should learn to keep his mouth shut.

Each time Sterling does well, he opens his gob to provide 'a warning', and the financial markets panic.

As to electrifying points, I was quite confused initially, but wiring isn't complex.

From my experience of railway buildings (in fact, anything railway), one cannot go too far with weathering.

Re: Class 9F and Bends

I know the Railroad range sometimes gets a bad rap, but is the Hornby 9F worth the money?

Re: PVA viscosity issues

Not going to create a whole new thread for this single query, so...

Someone mentioned adding a bit of black to the last fixing dose of PVA glue to give the ballast a bit of 'depth', and to make it look less new.

Question is, what should I add?
(In moderation, of course).

Re: Complete beginner

A dream of mine is having the space for a really large layout, capable of handling protypical length trains, and decent bends, but the truth is the construction would take ages, and scenery work - generations.

A girl can dream though.

Re: I must stop spending!

I agree with the potential [over]pricing of second-hand items (sorry, pre-owned), but I assumed I was getting old, cynical and tight. I have been known to scour ehattons site, and have picked up what I consider to be bargains, due to being described as 'noisy runners', etc. However, i bought two cla...

This is all good.

Seems I could operate one if I found one at a reasonable price.

Thanks all.

Re: Class 9F and Bends

Strangely, the two most troublesome of my original locomotives (before I improved the curves), were the old Hornby class-37, and my Hornby LMS 4P.

Re: Class 9F and Bends

Thanks.

I have the original Airfix kit, whixh now I shall probably keep, but get a 'new' reissue kit instead, or a Hornby model, as I've spent much of my funds on new Hymeks, etc.
