Re: All 6 A4's to be reunited.

Dominion Of Canada is in Bad condtion. I also think it should be returned to the UK, along with the other one over in the USA. They were built in Britain and should be in Britain! Again, the attitude of 'it was built by us so we are entitled to having it back' They were given as gifts.... why do we...

Re: All 6 A4's to be reunited.

According to Wikipedia Dominion of Canada is in a very poor cosmetic state with widespread rust and parts missing or removed and the loco also has a damaged front end. Since the locomotive was donated and clearly the museum cannot take adequate care of it surely there is a case for bringing it back ...

To add some real life comparision to this terrific layout have a look at this website, it is a positive gold mine of old and new photographs of Leith and Edinburgh.

Re: Finsbury Road - Taking shape nicely.

I'm a great fan of urban modelling, and this is a superb example of that genre, I echo what has been said above, superb workmanship.

Glad to know that the problem with my V3 was not unique, I also had one of the nylon bushes fail.

Re: Ballasting

Nice (if overpriced) tool for ballast spreading. To stick the ballast down there are a numebr of recognised methods, most widespread (as described above) is the use of diluted PVA (50:50 with water) with a drop of detergent to break the surface tension, carefully spray this on using one of the littl...

Re: Hairy's N gauge adventure

Hi - I can't find the photographs of the layout just now but here is the prototype! This is teh former Caledonian Railway Partick Central Station in Glasgow, showing the disused platform and the active goods sidings, including an oil terminal ans scrapyard. In the distance is the still active North ...

Re: Hairy's N gauge adventure

Hi - Can I make a couple of suggestions about your plan - I like the idea of the disused station being used as a goods yard, I saw this used to good effect on a club layout once, what I would do is make it look as if the link between the main station and the lower line was new, (i.e. these were prev...

Re: Kinning's Layout

Hi Kinning, Can I ofer some advice based on painful experience, I would do some serious de-cluttering of your workspace, and keep those nice locomotives away from heavy sharp tools. I have had a couple of issues with locomotives being damaged because they were not stored properly when heavy work was...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

OK - Backscene printing for beginners!! First of all, the most difficult part, if you are a period modeller, is getting suitable subject matter. Luckily for me there are several sites with suitable 1960s Era photographs such as http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/ and http://urbanglasgow.co.uk . Onc...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

I particularly like the backscene on the " Northbridge Station Building under construction " photo and the way the road surface changes at the white lines of the junction. Is it part of a commercially available range, or custom-made? Hi - The road surface is from the Scalescenes range - I...

Re: Looking for a signal gantry

Have you considered a scratchbuilt gantry? The plastruct brand plastic sections are reasonably priced and are quite easy to make into a prototypical structure.

Re: Signal placement - help please

Hi 413x I'm assuming that - the point to the left of the footbridge is part of the scene, the tracks on the right are sidings then, - all signals coming from left are out of the scene - the sidings to the right are signalled by miniature ground level signals. - there will be a starter signal at the...

Re: Gateside and Northbridge

Thanks for the kind comments guys, to answer Scott's questions about the buildings, they are of various sources, a lot of the original buildings were Superquick, which I found were as the brand suggests, quick to assemble, but not very prototypical for a Scottish Based Layout. I then discovered the ...
