Re: New Layout Ideas - Carstairs Inspired Layout

Hi Folks, Thanks for the information and advice. I've added a headshunt as Gordon suggested and I'm interested to know more about the signalling and location of the two red's that would be displayed. I've had to reduce the size of some of the boards to make it fit better into my room, so here is wha...

Re: New Layout Ideas - Carstairs Inspired Layout

Thanks great you still have the original plans. Thanks for sharing them with me. We really useful as I had only made the track plan from photo references, so they have really helped. I wonder how the layout is now? I would love to have the extra space, but I think 26+ft is a bit much to ask the wife...

Re: New Layout Ideas - Carstairs Inspired Layout

That's brilliant Gordon, thank you!! Were you part of the club that originally built it?! How did you come to have a copy of the drawings!!

Looks like it runs on two levels to include the larger fiddle yard?

Re: New Layout Ideas - Carstairs Inspired Layout

I'm struggling to make a large enough fiddle yard due to the constraints of curves and bends.

I've come up with this now, however any advice to improve the fiddle yard would be grateful received.

I've also added some PW/Ballast sidings on the right hand side of the board.

Re: New Layout Ideas - Carstairs Inspired Layout

Aw bless you Jim!! Thank you!! Was a bit disappointed on the photographs in the RM magazine. Had better reference from the links you sent me above!! Anyway, I'm happy with the layout design I've come up with now and have just purchased the license for SCARM to be able to completely design and draw t...

Re: New Layout Ideas - Carstairs Inspired Layout

Having found and bought the March 2007 edition on RM which had a feature on Nottinghams Carstairs layout and reading the operating methods, I have decided to do just that.

It will also simplify the layout build too!!

Re: New Layout Ideas - Carstairs Inspired Layout

After the suggestion of Carstairs from Jim, I have come up with the following trackplan, inspired by Carstairs station and junction. I'm quite happy with it and I've manage to get it to fit into the space I have available. The only part I'm not happy with is the two lower loops infront of the scenic...

Re: New Layout Ideas

Only managed to find one picture of Carstairs that gives me a bit of an idea on what it would look like. It certainly looks feasible.

Any other sources of research available?

New Layout Ideas - Carstairs Inspired Layout

I'm considering having to stop progress on my Port Moon layout and re-design and relay the track work, however I'm struggling to come up with a new track plan. Ive got a space of 11ft x 7ft to play with. DCC control. I'd like a station, engine depot to host a transfer table and a number of sidings f...

Class 50 Running Problem

My hornby Class 50 has developed a rather strange running issue. It was running fine, then went into storage for about 2 years and has recently been bought back out to play. It however runs very VERY slowly and doesn't respond to any change in throttle settings. HOWEVER, if I remove the body and dis...

Had to glue the plastic driving gears to the axle, bit otherwise, really pleased with this!

Re: "PORT MOON" 11x7 OO BR late 80's - February 2018 Update

https://photos.app.goo.gl/kXrlFc70MdVujXBi2 Excuse the clutter, but this gives an idea of the space and how I've increased the layout! Nearly finished the outer loops and re-working the yards. I've discovered the use of single slips, one of which is placed by the station entrance and I'm really ple...

Re: Digitrax BDL168 Block Detection and Transponding

Mmm :? now I'm super confused. I think I might just use the DigiKeijs DR5088 digidetect. That uses railcom to feedback over LocoNet so I know that that will definitely display the DCC address on the JMRI screen of which loco is in a block. That's all I wanted to achieve and had hoped the BDL168 woul...

Re: Digitrax BDL168 Block Detection and Transponding

Sorry FFS, this still doesn't answer my question and if anything backs up my query and my question!!!

I don't want to have to add a digitrax transponder to each of my locos. There are already fitted with a variety of DCC decoders.

Re: Digitrax BDL168 Block Detection and Transponding

I get how the BDL get wired and short of looking at JMRI again I know it will detect and shoe on the JMRI that a section is occupied. I want to confirm if it can detect which addressed loco is in the block. From reading it, it suggests I would need to use the transponding features of the BDL via RX4...
