Re: Ken's workbench Bagnall meets hacksaw
This was originally a clockwork toy made in Spain by some unknown manufacturer. The original clockwork chassis had it's wheels hidden by a red plastic skirt and it was a very odd looking thing. It's now fitted with a recent Caledonian Pug chassis. 20230525_172610.jpg 20230525_172432.jpg It may not l...

Re: Ken's workbench Bagnall meets hacksaw
I've been digging deep in the spares crate this week. This freelance brake van is inspired by the LSWR road vans. The chassis is from a Triang brake van, which has slightly later wheels that willl run through my points The main body is a cut down Triang fish van, with the inner wall and slimmed down...

OOBill is my current favourite, I've found his repair videos extremely useful.

Re: Ken's workbench Bagnall meets hacksaw
20230317_171548.jpg I've been tinkering with this Hornby 47 all afternoon I wanted to lower it slightly, and having done this to 2 other old Hornby diesels in the past, I thought it would be a quick job. It wasn't. The blasted thing wouldn't sit right and it took multiple attempts to stop it leanin...

Re: Locos which are not split chassis, but also not DDC ready
Now I come to think of it, it was actually 2015 when I bought my Collett. I'd just rebuilt my layout and 8 years later it's still far from finished. I've just remembered that the tender wasn't very free running and I came close returning it to Rails of Sheffield. In the end I managed to fiddle with ...

Locos which are not split chassis, but also not DDC ready
I'm looking to purchase a few 2nd hand Bachmann locos when funds allow, A GWR Collett 0-6-0, GWR 56XX and BR Standard Class 5 (75000). I owned a BR black Collett (32-306 ) around a decade ago, and found it quite under powdered, and in the end i sold it on. It was suggested that one of the reasons fo...

Re: Ken's workbench Bagnall meets hacksaw
A nice easy project after a few weeks away from the railway. I bought the Hornby Class 37 body last year , and a couple of weeks back I was lucky enough find a Lima 37 in Railfreight grey with full yellow cabs for £17. The Lima body went in the spares box , and the buffer beams were removed from the...

Re: Is this site in decline?
I've been a member here since 2009, and although I don't post as much as I used to, I do visit around 3 pr 4 times a week. I'm also a member of the other place, but I've only posted a couple of times there and that was so long ago I've forgotten my log in details. The other place is a gold mine of i...

Re: What the heck is going on.
Sadly these price rises seem to be inevitable , what has annoyed me is they've coincided with a decline in build quality. Because of this, with the exception of a few Railroad diesels for my son I stopped buying new locos about 4 years ago. I no longer read the model railway magazines, so can anyone...

Railroad Mk1 not very free running
I've acquired a few Railroad Mk1 coaches over the last few years, and 2 of them including a brown and cream CK I got for Christmas are very poor runners It took a while to work out the problem, it seems the wheel flanges rub on the underneath of the coach floor. I think carefully filing down the und...

Re: Have Hornby Abandoned Railroad
A late reply as there's been no time for modelling recently. The Railroad 37 does have tyres and I'm pleased to report after running in it's performance has improved. It's currently hauling 6 coaches (5x Airfix/ Mainline Mk2D and a not very free running Triang Mk1.

Re: Have Hornby Abandoned Railroad
I bought my son the Railroad Class 37 in Rail Operations Group livery . It cost £96 and looks pretty reasonable. His interest is purely modern image and so this is his third Railroad ex Lima model . The other two are the Class 66 and Class 47. I very much doubt any of these 3 locos will stand up to ...

Re: Enjoyable You tube channels disappears
Since my original post back in Feb 2017, Barrie Davies channel has been taken down and reappeared on several occasions. Most recently it was taken down at some point over the last 24 hours, and has just reappeared this evening. I was very disappointed to learn that Barrie Davies recently posted a vi...

Re: Brockbank mainly Southern
I recently made some alterations to one end of the layout, where the line disappears under a road bridge into the fiddle yard. One thing I was unhappy with was the bare board and general bits and pieces in the fiddle yard could be seen If you looked under the bridge. This couldn't normally be seen b...
