Re: Hornby Networker non runner

your platforms are gorgeous! Care to share how you obtained those? If scratch built as I suspect what was the process? Thanks Kipper. The platforms are scratchbuilt, 18mm MDF, faced with Slaters Brick sheet and painted and airbrushed. The plaftform tops are I think 40thou Plasticard, with the platf...

Re: It must be Bachmann's turn for some speculating

Some good stuff there good of Bachmann to do a long awaited retooled Mk2 Aircon. Good news on the Mk1 reruns of NSE stock, and im sure a lot of people will be happy with the rerun of the 166.

Locomotive and EMU wise very disappointing for me personally, I thought we might see a 172 and/or a 375.

Re: How can young people volunteer on preserved railways?

Just wanted to add, to you or any other youngster reading this, dont let lack of knowledge put you off volunteering or anything else career wise. Young people only gain skills/knowledge as it is passed down from generation to generation, and by listening and paying attention. I started off on the re...

My layout is in the loft. I boarded out the loft, added lighting and electrics and carpet tiled the floor.

Re: Careers with trains

Good luck with your change of career. I used to love working on the railways, started on P-Way then got into Bridge Examiners dept before becomming a TO. left around 95 when we got made redundant. Since then i've had an IT career, my own business and im now self employed. At the age of 40 i've been ...

Re: Any tips for handrails and knobs ?

Also I use a pin vice drill to drill my holes for such precision work, much more neater than a dremel. Just got one of these. Very useful indeed for handrails, lamp-irons etc. I also save on electricity :P Thanks for the tip. Any other little gems you would like to pass on ? glad to be of help :-) ...

Re: All I ask for is a decent site

I just read the OP's statement in disbelief.

Hornby website, click on coaches, page shows 1-10 of 233 products, thats 24 pages to scroll through for the casual buyer.

Hattons, Bachmann to name 2, click on coaches, they are all there for me to browse.

I rest my case

Re: HURST MODELS

Sorry guys the rant was not aimed at the OP. Hit a subject a bit close to me. I don't think 3-4 months is acceptable but I also think we should support our cottage industry where we can.

I'll stay out of the rest of the debate.

Re: Any tips for handrails and knobs ?

Although I don't bend handrails for steam, I do the odd handrails for my units. I'd add using some kind of magnifying glass to add vision. I personally use some cheapo reading glasses with a good light. Bending takes a bit of practice, don't be put off by getting a few wrong :-) Also I use a pin vic...

Re: HURST MODELS

if you haven't really got the time to concentrate on it full time because of other commitments then you've no business doing it really. Do you think you can live full time on selling the odd £20 cab end or etched brass order? Attitudes like yours stink and quite frankly if it wasnt for people like ...
