i'm not sure of its different for n to 00 but i would leave all sleepers attached but cut the chairs off for the sleeper that will sit under the fishplates, thats for 00 though? may be a totally different kettle of fish for n I would imagine it is the same for N and OO, and to be honest, cutting th...

Hi Gav, Here's what I tend to do: First, turn the track over and cut off 2 sleeper's worth of the plastic from one end. Save the sleepers as you'll use those later. Find a convenient starting point - preferably a straight section or by a set of points that you have temporarily tacked down. Manouvere...

Hi, haven't updated in a while - been fairly busy with layout..... Sounds like a good excuse to me :) Also looks like time well spent. I love the shot with the fence posts. What a difference having the painted sky makes as well. Looking forward to seeing similar pics with some steam charging throug...

No problem Gav - glad to help. With the trains you mentioned, you should certainly be able to go steeper than my incline if you need to - especially if you're going up 40mm (my branch line is about 70mm above baseboard height). The new Grafar engines seem more powerful than the old Minitrix ones I h...

Lovely vid Michael. Nice to see the operating potential being displayed. When can we book a mainline steam day for the layout? :)

Hi Gav, here is a link to a post in my layout thread showing my incline. I've basically used scrap cuts of about 15mm thick mdf as I had loads laying around. http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?p=59864#59864 In terms of the gradient - mine works out at around 1:37. I decided my...

Hey Tim,

what a lovely tribute to departed friends by naming the stations after them.

The names you have chosen fit well and don't sound contrived.

Nice one,

John.

Even though I wrote, 'back of back' on the back, I got it the wrong way round and put front of back on the back of back. Fortunately, the front of front wasn't put over the back of front; it went on the front of front okay :) :D :D Be interested to see the finished results. Good start there George ...

couldn't agree more.

I like the framework. Will it be visible when the model is finished, George?

I really fancy an 08 to shunt around the sidings, I'm not sure what these are like over pointwork but I am sure it will be fine..... Hi Gav, I bought an 08 from Mike (Dinmore Manor) just before Christmas last year and I've had no real problems with it. I've had an occasional derail or jump over the...

Fantastic as usual. I love the bushes placed "randomly" within the ballasted areas. Really sets the sidings off nicely.

You seem to have amassed quite a collection of those odd-looking blue things as well.

Splendid work,

John.

Hi Gav,

welcome to the 'N Club'. The track plan looks very good so far - as you said there's plenty of room to run stock with the loops, and a nice size to get stuck into the scenery.

Will be watching this with interest,

John.

Thanks for your comments guys - much appreciated. Another brief update: In a previous post, I commented that the platform undersides (brickwork bit) were to be made from sheets of mdf layered to a height of 9mm. After filling the room with dust from sanding these down, I decided on a change of strat...
