Re: New bi-weekly magazine with OO models steam loco's.

I had a look at them in my local bookshop today and the quality was nothing short of shocking. Brake rodding all over the place and so on - my oldest loco is a 50 year old Triang 8F and it makes the magazine offering look as though it was built by the salmon that John West rejected.

Re: Adding Drivers to Your Model Trains/Locomotives.

I have a GRW autocoach and when the time comes to detail it I'll probably go with Dart Castings for passengers. The loco that's going to pull it (a 2-6-2t) has neither driver nor fireman and I don't want to use the Hornby ones as they all look the same. Likewise my CIE Woolwich Mogul which is right-...

Re: Re-numbering locos.

There is also the vexed question regarding renumbering locos that you've already done. You may have used whatever method to remove the factory decals or printing; then you may have applied new ones by Fox Transfers or similar. Then you'll seal them with a coat of varnish; it'll be fun for the guy wh...

Re: Re-numbering locos.

I painted it on with a very fine brush - the paint was very diluted as well. It was all done with acrylics as they're handy to work with. It dabbed on some patches of rust and lime stains around the boiler and dry brushed the chassis with Vallejio Camo Black; then I dry brushed on some burnt umber a...

Re: A Lidl problem.

And now my cup runneth over - another replacement compressor arrived this morning, obviously sent by mistake. I've heard about Teutonic efficiency but this is overstepping the mark. I now have three Lidl compressors. :D

Re: Re-numbering locos.

Happily I've now got all of the transfers off - I also managed to remove some of the white lining from the tender but that's an easy fix. I've got some CIE "flying snail" logos for the tender sides and I can make numbers for the cab sides from some spare Airfix decals. They're not quite th...

Re: Re-numbering locos.

Of course - but I should have done a little more research on the subject anyway rather than take the lazy man's option. I'm sure I have a plethora of info in back issues of the model railway press; that said I've found that gentle application of white spirit with a cotton bud works on the Chinese Ba...

Re: Re-numbering locos.

Seems I'm talking to myself - nothing new there...

Anyway I did the job with some cotton buds and white spirit. I did manage to damage some of the delicate white lining on the tender but that's an easy fix.

Re-numbering locos.

I was going to post this in the repainting thread but I thought it merited a thread of its own. I want to remove the Southern Railway lettering and numbers from a Bachmann N-Class so that I can re-do it as a CIE one. Is there any way to do this without damaging the paint finish? I could use T-Cut or...

Re: A Lidl problem.

I bought that cordless grinder tool a while back and I wouldn't be without it. It's a brilliant piece of kit and every now and then you can buy a box of extra tools for it.

Re: A Lidl problem.

The replacement compressor finally arrived today - it took a while but the delivery guy had tried three times already and there was nobody at home. I must say that the new compressor runs much more smoothly and quietly than the old one ever did - the old one used to gallop around the worktop whereas...

Re: IPA

This. Surgical spirit is a topical disinfectant; they rub a bit on before giving you an injection or inserting a canula. Don't let it get anywhere near an open wound and be aware that if you drink IPA you'll meet a most unpleasant end.

Re: I bought my first decent loco today....

Am delighted to report that I have 8F No. 48109 in my stud; bought some years ago as I liked the look of it and the fact that it's probably of the same vintage as myself. I put a neo magnet in and it goes like the clappers.
