As already said it's really up to you what you want to model. Look at the sets and ask yourself which one suits you. If I recall the scotsman set is DCC, so ask yourself: do I want dcc? do I want to chip any futher n gauge purchases, can I afford the dcc chips aswell as the loco? and of course do I ...

When planning my layout I did a lot of testing and I found 1 in 50 really the minimum for steam locomotives although diesels are a lot more tolerant and would mangae 1 in 40.
