Opening a can of worms?

I've read online that Deutsche Bahn are about to start running trains in December between London and Colonge or Amsterdam. This seems to be a massive can of railway moddeling worms they are opening, as many of us know british modelling is very traditional in running on incorrect scale track but what...

Re: mixing red brick and stone buildings.

You don't mention your period or where your model is set, but it's a possible option, after all the station could have been built with the coming of the railway and the houses followed with the delivery of bricks using the railway.

Re: looking for advice

Space there's alot of it beyond our atmosphere but in the world of model railways it's usually in short supply. Mr H has a point N gauge is a way to go for the space stricken. If your struggling to find space to fiinsh your layout you may find that the limitation may just push your modeling over the...

Re: Defacing Thomas stock....

I no longer own them but Mr H I hold my hands up I did I removed their faces and put smokebox doors on and I did it to several of the locos (I did keep the faces so they could be swapped back). I was a huge Thomas fan when I was a kid and was always inspired by the pictures of the Ffarquhar layout b...

Re: Help to identify coaches >

You'll probably get a couple of quid for em, as there are many LNER modellers who don't want to fork out £50 a time for the new Hornby super detail coaches and the sleeper also isn't in the railroad range.

Re: Help to identify coaches >

Although on a closer look of the sleeper the wheels appear to be lima ones on one of the bogies, they look all over silver and with a deeper flange compared to the other end.

Re: Help to identify coaches >

They are the old Hornby LNER coaches now in the railroad range, based on the Gresely design (but never refereed to as Gresely) and put on the Hornby generic underframe making them too short for prototype length. The first is as you say a sleeping car and the second is a brake coach they look to be 1...

Re: Clerestory Crazy?

If you go down the LNER route you can get away with LNER teak which was the name for a shade of brown used on some of their rolling stock, alot easier than the GWR chocolate and cream and I don't think the modifications would be to difficult especially as ratio do these: Vents https://railsofsheffie...

Re: What to do with my Thomas layout.

We could pull Tk421's face off and replace it with a smoke door too but I wouldn't recommend it. If it's not in use then put it on the for sale board cheaply for a beginner to play with Then you won't like what I did to my collection a few years ago then  but it was how the Rev's models looked...

Re: What to do with my Thomas layout.

How about making it a serious Thomas layout (North western railway) change the faces for smokebox doors. You could turn it into the quarry, put a backscene where the station is so you've got a hidden fiddle road and make the shunting puzzle area the quarry and get yourself a nice j70 tram loco. Just...
