Re: Southern Railway carriages - which ones?

What coaches exactly do you have R43?? etc The only only Maunsell corridor coach I've got at present is the 6-compartment brake r/n 4048, which seems to be R4300A. I reckon R4300C is the same thing with r/n 4050, which would do nicely for the other end, with any two from R4297E, R4298A/B/C and R429...

Re: Southern Railway carriages - which ones? UPDATED!

What prices are you seeing? There are plenty of places selling S15s at bargain prices. Hornby themselves for £94.99, for example (see https://uk.hornby.com/products/br-maunsell-s15-class-4-6-0-30831-late-br-era-4-r3413 ) If you Google Hornby S15 you'll find other shops selling for around £85. You'l...

Re: Southern Railway carriages - which ones? UPDATED!

Also, why are the carriages referred to by Mr Parkes in the series R47xx whereas the one I've got is R43xx? Is that simply a case of new part numbers for new batches, or what? Hornby (and Bachmann) add a suffix letter A to the second version B to the third etc. The use of a new catalogue should ind...

Re: Southern Railway carriages - which ones? UPDATED!

OK, domestic matters having now been resolved to Madam's satisfaction, at least temporarily, I must try harder to ignore that Maunsell diner, if only on the grounds that I'm still not sure that I'm ready for a train of white-roofed carriages with one grey roof in the middle of it. More to the point ...

Re: Southern Railway carriages - which ones?

Thank you very much indeed, gentlemen. So that rather appealing restaurant car is the only Bulleid carriage in olive which has grey roof?

Southern Railway carriages - which ones?

When my railway is in Southern mode, I have two passenger trains. One consists of 3 x birdcages (2 x brake 3rds and a comp), and the other of 4 x 58' Maunsells (2 x brake 3rds and 2 x 3rds). I would like to add a 6-coach train, for which the coaches must be olive and of a comparable build standard t...

Re: Steam on Lincolnshire branchline in 1958

... In 1958 there may be Summer Saturday's only Holiday Specials to Cleethorpes operated by (maybe) a 'foreign' 4.6.0 locomotive on the line. I have been on a few in the late 1950s and travelled on secondary routes ... In summer holidays 1958 I could usually be found train-spotting on the line into...

Re: Hornby B1 Stembok (R3451)

Thanks once again, BIgmet. Knowing how good the K1 is, how much a good B1 would cost me and the fact that I'm DC, I think I'll remain B1-less.

Hornby B1 Stembok (R3451)

Is it realistic to expect that a new Hornby B1 should be as good a runner as my Hornby K1 is? Or are there marked differences between them that would affect the performance?

You're thinking of acrylic paints, not "latex".

Re: Are Hattons buying 'pre owned' off EBay to re sell?

When talking to a Hattons Person on the phone once about the prices they were paying, I mentioned what seemed to me to be their going rate for buying-in secondhand rolling stock. Judging by the reaction I got, I wasn't far off :) Let's just say that if I was to flog them some ordinary run-of-the-mil...
