It has to be designated before salvation - no 60 is designated.

60s are better built than a 66, can pull more and use less fuel. Shoddy/non-existant maintenance is to blame for most of the current problems.

Probably the difference between TOPs and reality.

EWS/DBS have a policy of not putting anything out to tender that could be used by a rival company - expect any 60s that are up for sale anytime soon to be heavily stripped/robbed wrecks.

Yes, but not on every locomotive would that be necessary to save yourself.

It's worth pointing out that the driver of that HST hit behind the desk after applying the emergency brake - that's what saved him.

It's also worth pointing out that the HST has fared badly in lots of previous accidents.
