Re: Ade's 00 Layout

Any progress? Very little! The baseboard section is now braced and painted... and that's about it. I've been frustrating myself by being unhappy with the SMP tiebars, my idea of recessing them into cork (and fitting cosmetic stretcher bars) not really working, and being a bit daunted by having to i...

Re: The Nearly Ramsgate layout.

it started with this shot of Ramsgate i took, http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/5373/dorianv.jpg Three questions: How did you get all the way up there? ...and how did you get 17999 years into the future? Have you now abandoned the Ramsgate idea, or are there some elements you'll be incorpora...

Re: My Layout

Hi Dead Man's Handle, not sure if it is this OSB you mention, the tag in B&Q said chipboard and so I took it for being that. :? Maybe the guy who puts the tags on had a bad day :D B&Q would seem to refer to it as OSB here Still, I think it's probably a better material than chipboard, so no ha...

Re: My Layout

i'm sure my layout is chipboard but your board looks different. The board on this layout looks to be OSB (oriented strand board), which does often get referred to as chipboard or woodchip board (there might be some international differences in the commonly used terms?) Yes, it's different to the fi...

Re: My first layout (DeadStar)

As to treatment, I'd just paint the whole thing (board and framework) with a suitable wood primer. This will stop any swelling if it gets wet at all, such as from certain ballasting methods as it will keep moisture out... I don't have much experience particularly relating to model railway baseboard...

Re: Ian's Layout

One thing i have come up against though is what do you guys put on the slope, the slope is over about a 5ft run, i have the track down and have now put a road on it but how do i put a building on it, all the people would slide to one side of the rooms :D only way i can see is to just have fields be...

Re: Frankland: N gauge Southern Railway

http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd62/LondonResident/2009%2007%2011%20-%20Scenics/Uphill-01.jpg Looks like a photo from a really huuuge layout. Really a masterpiece of subtly contoured landscape - very realistic and not what you see often on a model railway. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd6...

Re: Dunscombe track plan - brainstorming/ideas

Quick further question on these turnouts, they appear to be closer double track spacing, is this again to be closer to reality, or must we put some snipped flexi track in between to separate to 67mm? The 00 gauge standard distance is 50mm (centre to centre), which about what Peco Streamline gives. ...

Re: Dunscombe track plan - brainstorming/ideas

does anyone know why the track does not quite meet up in the top right, is it my layout and the settrack elements I used or a slight glitch in the xtrk geometries? Left click on the 'Connect two tracks' icon at the top, then left click the 2 pieces of track which aren't quite meeting. That should c...

Re: Ade's 00 Layout

It's only taken me ten months, but now I have a baseboard :D http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg267/Ade350125/Baseboard.jpg I still need to work out where the internal bracing is gonna be, as there are a lot of point motors to go under this section. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg267/Ade3501...

Re: Would this work.

I guess it's N scale and each square represents a square foot? You say the fiddle yard will be below board level - so I guess you intend to use a gradient to get down to it - where would it start? How much lower than the baseboard would the fiddle yard be? The usual minimum clearance won't be enough...

Re: layout idear

I'm afraid I can't make much sense of your drawing (When I tried to draw it to scale, I ended up with some sort of TARDIS situation where 7 feet fit inside 5). Could you perhaps make a version which shows exactly where you are measuring from and to?

Oops, I obviously wasn't in the best of moods last time I wrote :D Not much progress, but here is how the Springside Cortina is looking; I'm working on the interior before it all gets sealed in (it still needs tidying up a bit - this is just to check I'm heading in the right direction): http://i250....

Re: Ade's 00 Layout

I just had to read over the thread again to remember what the hell I was doing... Today I was unloading and stacking boxes while some other guy is apparently employed to stand the...
