Always nice to see a good bit of butchering. The thought of doing it in N terrifies me... I'm struggling to get the right number of rivets in 4mm
Looking good!

Re: Ade's 00 Layout
We will arrange a three sum again soon. Okay, but I'm not going in the middle again... Not much of an update, but work on DP2 has been continuing. I don't suppose it looks much different : http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg267/Ade350125/DP2conv.jpg I was gonna make a long list of what's don...

Re: Yellow Warning Panels
I fitted the head code boxes as per instructions, are they flush on the 40's? They're either flush or very slightly in - there might be a little variation, or maybe it's just things looking different from different angles/distances. But I've never seen any that protrude beyond the side of the nose....

Re: Ade's 00 Layout
An illusion that the coach body is distressed exists! Yeah it seems to have an effect on the whole thing somehow... Off with the offending roof ribs I say. Have started now. I think I read that Bachmann have removed them from the latest versions, but on most Mark 1s there seems to be a bit of somet...

Re: Yellow Warning Panels
Looks like it works well. It's noticeable that there are two different yellows, but I think that looks kinda nice. Are the headcode boxes jutting out past the side of the loco? The windscreen looks rather high too. Are you using a photo of the actual loco to aid in positioning these, or just followi...

Re: Ade's 00 Layout
DP2 still isn't ready for primer... So I thought I'd have a go at sprucing up (or should that be down ?) a Bachmann Mk1 a bit - currently experimenting with painting the bogies and underside (I haven't touched the roof and sides for the moment). I don't think I'm quite there yet, but it does look a ...

Re: Toton Great Central Railway! NEW PICS P55!!
Well, shall we all calm down?? I think most of us are calm? Please for eveyone's sake lets end this thread here. We should end Ian's personal layout thread because I asked an awkward question? Like people have said, painting isn't easy, and there are good points about using decent brushes a...

Re: Toton Great Central Railway! NEW PICS P55!!
I am sorry to see comments like this. I have had my share of "knocks" in my time, particularly at exhibitions from rivet counters, who normally can't model anything themselves. I have always found experienced modellers to be helpful. Lining is VERY difficult and takes years to be good at ...

Re: Toton Great Central Railway! NEW PICS P55!!
Hi Ian, I hope I don't sound rude (and if it's been mentioned before, or you have a disability or something, then I apologise, but this thread is pretty long now so I might have missed it...) but what is with your painting? I mean you've built some interesting structures, wagon kits, done a good job...

Re: Diesel Hydraulic Memories
What was the difference in the engine's used in the warship's against the one's used in the Western. A quick Google gives me the impression that the Western engines were turbo charged and intercooled, while the Warship ones presumably were not. I'm not too sure though, it was just from a Google. Wh...

Re: Ade's 00 Layout
Thanks guys :) I've been trying to restrict myself to work on this that needs doing before painting, but I wanted to try out an idea I had for the... I've seen it called a "fire handle" - I think it's an emergency fuel cut-off. I reckon it's worked pretty well to say it's only 2.4mm diamet...

Re: Ade's 00 Layout
Any update? Erm great leaps of progress haven't exactly been made... Met a girl, fell in love (no time for modelling), got heart broken, that type of thing... so I've been back working on it the last couple of weeks. It just took me a while to get back into the lifetime-alone mentality. It looks pr...

Re: NSE livery (why dislike?)
...because it's like some kinda hideous exaggerated version of some 'go-faster stripes' that someone bought from Halfords in the hope of making their Ford Escort Mark III look really racy. And the colours are gaudy. And it's indicative of the rather unsophisticated need of those without taste to get...

Re: Ideas wanted (please!) to help finalise my N Gauge layout
Aside from any differences in point geometries available, OO track/ wheel spacing is 3.5mm to the foot (with the rest being 4mm) and N gauge is something around 2mm. So in terms of track, OO is a long way short of being twice as big as N.
