Re: Help with a Potential Trainset Roundy Roundy

Nothing wrong with keeping it simple - at least you will actually be finished and watch some trains instead of waiting years for your layout to get completed! You wanted ideas to make it more interesting and it looks like you are already changing the track around as takes your mood, so I'd suggest t...

Re: Reusable, modular layout base in N-gauge

Thanks for all of the compliments. OO modellers enjoying an N gauge layout: What is the world coming to?! Must be Covid madness! :D I get the point about n-gaugers putting 'too much track' on the board. This was deliberately kept compact to ensure it was finishable, to experiment with some ideas and...

Re: Reusable, modular layout base in N-gauge

Since railways are rarely viewed from the air (!) I took some lower angle shots which look a lot better :) P6_track1.JPG P6_track2.JPG P6_track3.JPG I have quite a lot of railfreight red wagons so thought I'd have a clear out and put them on ebay, so decided to take some final shots on the layout. I...

Re: A Christmas end to end

Ah - good to hear!
It would be a shame if your hard work got smouldered, or worse - set fire to your house, so good to know it isn't an issue.
Best to check though - I'm glad I asked the qustion :)

Re: A Christmas end to end

Good progress already and should be a nice one to follow. :) Bear in mind Christmas is cold so your fire will be on - have you checked how hot it gets in front when on as you wouldn't want to set fire or melt the layout/train? I remember leaving a toy fire engine in front of our fireplace as a child...

Re: Reusable, modular layout base in N-gauge

Here is a view of the entire layout. You can't see much detail in it, but it gives a good view of the edges and overall setup. Edited to hide my clutter in the photo! Overall size 3.10m x 1.06m (10'3'' x 3'6'') P6_01.JPG This is a different view looking along from one end to show the front and back ...

Re: Reusable, modular layout base in N-gauge

Having closed the gap by the office blocks, the scene looks a lot more complete P5_96.JPG Now having finished the 'backscene' (!) I decided it was time to populate the layout with some trains for a bit P5_97.JPG The plywood board gives plenty of future options for infill scenes and alternative build...

Re: Reusable, modular layout base in N-gauge

Now the card cutting is complete and all the elements fit the space, it is time to finally paint all the card a light grey to represent concrete P5_91.JPG It could probably benefit from some weathering, but for now it will do. If this turns into the interior of a station plaza then weathering would ...

Re: Reusable, modular layout base in N-gauge

The finished edge (unpainted of course) can be seen in this shot looking towards the station. The protruding part next to the station end is to form a foundation for the end office block P5_86.JPG The office block that surrounds the end of the backscene slots nicely into the end foundation and is no...

Re: Unfinished business.

I know exactly what you mean! It was this thinking that inspired me to try an experimental modular method and remake different interchangeable modules, which I have to say was very successful from that point of view. Once 'finished' I then removed modules and made new ones, then when they were finis...

Re: Micro layout in O-16.5

That water looks really good - nice to see alternatives to expensive water resin. The river bed painting has emphasised the depth as appropriate too. It just goes to show that the right PVA can be just the job at a fraction of the cost. I've found clear varnish also works in a similar way. What was ...

Re: Reusable, modular layout base in N-gauge

Thanks for the comments :) The next task was to finish the edge of the higher concrete level. To keep it simple, this would comprise just a barrier and a balcony for now, where I could add buildings in the future, such as a station plaza and/or some shops. The card pieces were cut and scored to allo...

Re: Reusable, modular layout base in N-gauge

To hide the join at the side of the buffer ballasting I thought a row of bushes would work and it was quick to apply P5_77.JPG The ballasted flat area at the siding entrance also looked like it could benefit from a few overgrowing weeds so this was also applied P5_78.JPG P5_79.JPG Now the two latest...
