Re: Which glue? Lineside fencing

I tried MEK on these and it still didn't seem to want to stick. I gave up on the plastic 'wire' and decided I preferred the idea of railings, so used 20 thou plastic rod, which did glue nicely with MEK. This may not be the effect that the OP wanted, but it works for me. https://live.staticflickr.com...

Re: 2019 Annual Wishlist Poll

A reminder that if you haven't voted already, the Poll closes on Saturday November 2nd. If you are concerned about the motives, rationale and mechanisms behind the Poll, I quote a response Brian Macdermott gave to a contributor on RMweb (with Brian's permission). " The Poll is many days in the ...

Re: Anyone Know What's Going On Here

Hi Bigmet. We have had a regular swap meet at the Forest Hill scout hall about 1 km from us, currently on the last Thursday of each month. We used to walk to it but after I had an accident and damaged a knee we tend to drive there. It is currently run by the widow (Christine) and daughter of the man...

Re: Anyone Know What's Going On Here

I agree: the Blue Pullman motor/dummy pairs turn up frequently at swap meets, seemingly almost as common as the DMU, and use an identical motor bogie. So why just the R157 version (which is also anything but rare)?

Re: Gear problem on keith park R2586

Wasn't aware of that on the class 68. Distance purchasers would have had the option of return for refund; but I guess with Dapol the only game in town for this class the majority will have decided to 'put up or shut up'. Regarding Dapol's general performance, I am leery of them TBH. I'll wait for r...

Re: 2019 Annual Wishlist Poll

I'd love a C2X myself. Put your votes into the poll - if these are already listed then tick them, if not, add them at the end where there is room for requests.

Re: Hattons Announces 4 and 6 wheel coaches

I find 6-wheelers run fine if there is sufficient float in the centre axles - sideways and up/down. The oft-mentioned Dapol Stove R has given me no trouble once I Blu-Tacked the end axles into place - there is sufficient resilience in the Blu-Tack to allow a little movement while restricting the tur...

Re: A couple of questions Re. track

You can have working catch points but as you said earlier, it would really be for show - you don't really want to deliberately derail your stock! On my previous layout I had a dummy catch point, which was simply made up from a few sleeper extensions and a piece of rail filed to blend in to plain tra...

Re: 4 pin decoders?

The metal 'pins' in the blanking plug are retained by small plastic tabs that can be lifted slightly to release the pin -simply pull on the wire loop that's in it already, then de-solder the wire and attach the appropriate decoder wire, then re-insert the pin. the plastic tab should automatically cl...

Re: 4 pin decoders?

Yes, that was me! I used a TCS M1 but I also hooked it into the Hornby 4-pin 'blanking plug' so it could be removed or changed at some time in the future (possibly for sound). Hornby are the only manufacturer doing the 4-pin decoder, but it is still the same decoder they use for the 8-pin installati...

Re: Where's the Hornby R3615 Peckett gone?

A quick search on Google took me to Hornby's website which had this to say: "Sorry the Peckett Works Livery No.560/1893 0-4-0ST - Era 2 is no longer available... We're sorry, the website has sold out of this item and we're not expecting any more stock." See for yourselves at https://www.ho...

Re: REPLICA RAILWAYS "Low line" powered chassis details & pics.

These have been around for quite a few years. I have used several in kit-built EMUs, including a DC Kits 4 EPB and several Bratchell Models EMUS (2 x class 455 and a 319/1). All of mine have been the 64' length but with different sized wheels to suit the application (14 mm for the EPB, 12 mm for the...
