Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

The finger-tip test is one I use with model aircraft too :D So far I've just been running my locos light to run them in, and the only perceptible heat (not enough to be concerned about) seems to be in the area of the decoders. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on things now that I'm aware that voltage can be...

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

I think the default is 16v at the track. I use home made stay alives with 16v electrolytic cap's or 5.5v supercap's in series, with the track voltage set at 14.5 with no problems. What capacity do you use? I can't see enough space in my N-gauge locos for any decent size capacitor :( I've been think...

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

Thanks Bigmet, maybe I'll experiment with winding the voltage down sooner rather than later, before I start running proper trains with my locos. It's at factory default at the moment, whatever that is.

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

As you go along you'll find that you can adjust the output (track) voltage with the LZV 100. This is a good feature if you ever decide to use stay alive cap's or simply want to keep the voltage to your motors at your choice. I noticed that when reading through the manual, but I didn't (still don't)...

Re: Which DCC decoder will fit in N-gauge 0-6-0 tank?

No response from Dapol yet, but I've had a closer look this afternoon and there seems to be plenty of space for a decoder in the cab provided the 6-pin socket is removed and a wired decoder used. That's in line with the video I saw yesterday. So my first "skillful modification" will only e...

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

The Lenz USA site with the English manuals is here - http://www.lenzusa.com/manuals/ Yep, that's where I got it. Page 13 of the "LH100 Keypad based Dispatcher's Throttle" showed me how to change which loco I'm controlling, and page 51 showed how to change the loco's address on the progamm...

Re: Which DCC decoder will fit in N-gauge 0-6-0 tank?

Thanks guys. I will be contacting Dapol direct, to see what they had in mind. But I'm reconciled to the fact that I probably need a wired decoder with 6-pin plug, and a lot of botching.

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

Thanks for that advice on programming. I've already made a separate programming track -- seems much simpler than isolating a siding on the main layout, just plug it into the Lenz and it's ready to go. I eventually found an English set of instructions. Can't remember exactly where, but it was a US si...

Re: Which DCC decoder will fit in N-gauge 0-6-0 tank?

I searched this forum with no result. Now that I've Googled the web it seems that maybe nobody does a decoder small enough to fit into the 6-pin socket that's beneath the coal bunker. One video I found shows the socket being removed, and a wired decoder fitted instead. Surely if Dapol have installed...

Which DCC decoder will fit in N-gauge 0-6-0 tank?

Just got my Lenz 100 DCC controller all set up -- my first venture into DCC -- and installed Lenz silver mini decoders in two of my locos. Even though the Dapol instructions say " ... fit the decoder of your choice.", the Lenz mini turned out to be too big for my N-gauge Dapol 0-6-0 Pannie...

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

The packages arrived from Germany yesterday, so this afternoon I had a good time unboxing and setting things up. UK plug installed on the PSU, Lenz silver mini decoders plugged into my Farish class 66 and Dapol HST, and they both ran beautifully once I'd installed the decoders the right way up -- th...

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

Thanks RFS, but "Standard" size won't fit in an N-gauge loco, I believe. Their prices for mini size look good as well though :)

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

... While there are some which can straightforwardly take a decoder with the appropriate connector, others are a case of 'why did they do that?' and some modellers (myself at least) prefer to inspect the model before deciding on the decoder to purchase for it. Very frequently there are better/cheap...

Re: Lenz 100 out of stock everywhere

Thank you everyone :) I'll be downloading the manual so that I can drool over it while waiting, and I'll be cutting the European plug off and installing a British one, rather than using an adapter. A supplementary question if I may: Is there any need to use Lenz decoders, or can I use any reputable ...

Update

Thanks for all the input. I've been away for a while, but today I've placed and order for the Lenz 100 set and PSU with the German supplier mentioned by RFS a while ago.
