Re: My next N gauge layout!

Got me slab of foam today so been having a little play :D Before I knew it I had made this  wasn't really intending to but it just sort of happened, sometimes it's best that way. http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/2700/dsc01155m.jpg Quick spray with some grey paint and a very faint black dry b...

Re: Sandford keys

Looks alright to me,dont worry if people dont comment on your layout all the time,as long as you are happy with it :D All I would say is whilst I like the covered back section with the track above it how practical is it going to be to get a stuck/de-railed train out of the covered over section? I ta...

Re: loco chip codes

Don't create unnecessary shorts ... not a good idea at all. I use a Select and can overwrite existing address ..... thought any basic system should allow that. If you're so far out in the sticks this is going to be difficult ..... normally I say try and find a local MRS/club .... or even fish here ...

Re: loco chip codes

I would have thought the EZ command would programme decoders in the range 1 - 9 Therefore just ignore the number asigned at present and set up as you would when buying a new loco with the factory set 03 address ? I don't have an EZ so this is just speculation Geoff T. But how do you get to a factor...

Re: My next N gauge layout!

Not much significant progress in the last few days, just some small milestones :D I have cheated with the problem with the point motor being right in front of the tunnel mouth,I have just extended the tunnel mouths out by about 4 inches, problem solved. http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/6613/dsc01146...

Re: Isolating switch wiring

So it appears you can use other switch types in the block arrangement BUT the switches MUST be of the same type.
So a block of PL26 switches a block of PL22 switches etc etc, just dont mix switch types.

Re: Proposed 8 x 8 layout - comments appreciated!

Overly complicated. Lots of pointless sidings/points that are too short to be of any real practical use. There seems to be the idea that you need lots of points to make a layout interesting and that just aint so. You could probably loose half the track and still have something good. With the turnta...

Re: Isolating switch wiring

wired common return you can have AC and DC on one wire at the same time. the block looks plastic? and it keeps the switches seperated by a few mm so i'm not seeing an issue. i have also seen pictures on old hornby track plan covers of all 3 colour switches they do in one long bank so i doubt there ...

Re: Isolating switch wiring

Groans! Thanks for the info guys. As I understand it, I can put the 3 point motor switches in one unit, and then I need to wire up each on-off switch for each isolating switch separately and not in the block of connectors? I'll need some mounting plates separately then - oh well... I wish they told...

I like the hidden top section,so much so I might steal that idea  and dispense with my plan for a gradient.
