Re: Essellty - a micro-layout

Took stock of things and as Essellty is designed as a railcar-only micro-layout, then the loco has moved on. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb303/piermaster/Essellty/0179d54a-1524-4314-86ea-90ea47db2ff6_zps8d5eeeba.jpg Along the length of the board. http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb303/pierm...

Re: The MSLR in OO scale

Hi John, I think you've fallen into the trap of buying with your eyes and not with your head - a common pitfall in this hobby! I did the same with Essellty. You need to step back from the layout and be brutal as to what stays and what must go. With Essellty I sold more than I bought and currently ha...

Re: How can young people volunteer on preserved railways?

I am a volunteer for the Mid Suffolk Light Railway and we have volunteers from 15 to 82! Some of our younger ones work there on Saturdays whereas a few of us older and retired ones work Wednesdays. My role there is Health & Safety Manager, and when not doing that I'm usually in the office handli...

Re: Posting topics on more than one forum

I don't have a problem of posting on more than more forum, each forum has its own 'lowest common denominator' and therefore the quality and quantity of responses will be varied. I rarely post anything about my own modelling on here these days because of two individuals who can't/won't understand the...

Re: What was the NSE Queen Mary brake van used for?

A 'Queen Mary' bogie brake van was based at Romford for many years as it was considered man enough to handle the steep gradient between the upper and lower yards there.

The lower yard is now Romford bus station, the upper yard is now Balfour Beatty 'portakabin city' with a single tamper siding.

Re: Essellty - a micro-layout

Essex2Visuvesi: I'm not struck about DCC sound for railcars as they basically sound more or less the same! Another factor against sound is the cost. Nor have I forgotten the clown I was next to at a weekend exhibition one year who had a TMD layout with just about every version of Class 66 on it and ...

Lovely place!

Andrew (the boss) and his daughter Anna (who grew up in the shop and knows every square inch of it) are really lovely people to help and serve you.

Just like the way model and hobby shops used to be.

Thankfully it is beside the A11 and you can join it very quickly from here!!!
