Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR

Indeed, sadly it is extra to go with smaller layers, 100 is nothing extra in terms of cash, but layer lines are more visible like you know, and also close ups can be cruel and exaggerate the layer lines, but then again some paint finishes on Bufferstops projects well can certainly see the lack of pr...

Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR

Well technically you are, but when our standing 4 ft away no-one has noticed at various exhibitions. :) Also secondly this is a low resolution print. I have a 50 micro print. There are no lines ;)

Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR

Thanks Tony, yes they have proved very successful and consistent good seller, seem to be a nice small coach which makes a decent 4 wheeler coach which is somewhat lacking on the market at the moment.

Re: 3D Printing: Coach tops, LCDR / SECR

After the success of the little 4 wheeler coaches which have sold well on eBay despite the price so was very encouraged by that. Baxter has had a small update on the file, improved some of the curved surfaces. So 2 years ago I started building another large coach, having sold my scratch-built versio...

Re: A couple of loco detailing bits

Yes that's the problem getting hold of castings, 3D printing has pretty much filled the hole and cuts costs, no need for moulds, or processes. Finding less and less of them, 5&9 models are mainly LBSC castings but very old ones, so they won't do anything like a an E4 sadly.

Re: A couple of loco detailing bits

For me the chimney looks a bit like an LBSC E4, there is one kit but name escapes me, but that could be just the angle, the buffers are hard to tell from this image.

Modelling this in 3D is probably the best way forward if you can do CAD.

Re: A couple of loco detailing bits

When all else fails I usually 3D print it, of course if you cannot design it yourself it could be expensive.
I have printed bits of loco's chimneys, domes, buffers ect... I would say that's the way forward when you cannot find items.

Re: Hornby 2018 Range

Can't say what but it's quite well known, just have to see I know they have scanned it, doesn't mean it's southern, but then again southern sells, I was impressed with Hornby's hole filling some of which have been needed for a fair while, not the most inspiring range but good. Anyway one of you is o...

Re: Hornby 2018 Range

There is more to come from Hornby I cannot say at this moment but its a loco which has been up there on the wish lists for some time.

Re: BMR Workbench.

Thanks Steve, yes Trevor did a great job on the photo's, shame I haven't done much work on anything recently as it's all research based, especially because I have absolutely no money at all currently which makes modelling difficult.

Re: Horsted Keynes - Bluebell Railway Layout.

Thank you, glad a few spotted it... haha. Yes the Hornby feature I think was sort of on the cards since 2010? When Baxter won a little competition and part of that was to be in the mag, due to things and goings on's it never happened, but got contacted in 2016 and arranged it. Pleased to see it's go...

Re: BMR Workbench.

This was my first brass kit, I built the coach and chassis very quickly but stopped for a long time before restarting last year, having attempted a different way of lining after reading the LBSC circle which was challenging. But final completed. Sorry to come back to this, but I suspect the wonderm...

Re: BMR Workbench.

I think there's a point beyond which it's difficult to go on with the one line likes and greats etc. You've established your level of excellence in most peoples minds. There will always be the moaners and disparagers, but I think they would soon get put in their place if they tried it here. We have...

Re: BMR Workbench.

Yes 65,000 is a nice figure, although I decided to take them images and work off for a couple of reasons, as I found someone had borrowed it shall we say and tried to pass it off as their own. Which was one reason why I stopped posting. Well can try some others? That's a bit naff lol Or my modelling...

Re: BMR Workbench.

Well I appreciate those who do, but sadly time is not on my side these days to write everything, especially for my next coach which I have been researching for 2 years... with information only starting to be found recently, although the diagram still is missing so have to make my own, least by the t...
