Re: Which Magazine for N-Gauge?

The N Gauge Society Journal (1/15) should have recently been delivered to UK members (with overseas members having to wait for the international post). It includes part one of an article about the 'Parkend' layout as featured in the postings above. Already work is well advanced on the next issue - 2...

Re: Kato Eurostar questions -- newbie to N gauge.

Hi abenn,

If you're starting new in N gauge I'd suggest and recommend joining the N Gauge Society. Check out their website at: http://ngaugesociety.com/

Cheers,

Re: Graham Farish 80211 Class 47 47747 in Virgin livery

It's unlikely to be 'rarer' than any other liveried version of a Farish locomotive as most of the batches produced by them (especially at that time) would have all been the same at a little over 1000. It's a matter of how many batches were produced but in general a re-run batch would have been in a ...

Re: Which Magazine for N-Gauge?

Membership numbers (or even length of membership) has absolutely no bearing on what gets submitted or printed in the NGS Journal. There is no policy that gives priority to older members or that newer ones are somehow not 'let in'. It's an assertion that doesn't really hold water especially as many o...

Re: Kato vs Dapol and Graham Farish

Most Dapol models have instructions that say you should lubricate them before using and running in. A lot of Farish models tend to be caked in transit grease which it's best to remove and then lubricate lightly with oil. New locos should be gently run-in. General servicing maintenance should include...

Re: Kato vs Dapol and Graham Farish

I've got dozens (probably more than 100) and never had to return a Dapol or Farish loco.

Re: Kato vs Dapol and Graham Farish

"So, does anyone have any ideas why Kato seem to be able to produce incredibly smooth slow speed steam locos yet ours in the UK are always playing catch up?" I can't speak for kettles as I prefer and mainly have diesels and electrics, but don't think that is necessarily always the case. I'...

Re: Real Difference Between N & OO?

8' x 5' in OO might be feasible but I'd suggest than not only will it limit train lengths but it will mean potentially unrealistic tight radius bends, reduced straight sections and overall potentially a toy train set look rather than a model railway layout. N gauge would certainly give you the spaci...

Re: Real Difference Between N & OO?

It's all down to what you are used to regarding size. N gauge is no more 'tiny' (as mentioned earlier) than OO gauge is massive (or as sometimes derogatively claimed 'Orribly Overscale). However, 'T' gauge is tiny (3mm track gauge and 1:450 scale), 'Z' is small (6.5mm gauge and 1:220 scale) while 'N...

Re: Which Magazine for N-Gauge?

Thanks for the comments. It's an interesting observation about layouts looking like they were 'built a long while ago'. Presumably you mean they are not built with modern materials and techniques and to the latest quality standards? Ensuring that there are sufficient new and high class N gauge layou...

Re: Which Magazine for N-Gauge?

The latest issue of the N Gauge Society's 'Journal' & 'Newsletter' (4/14) has now been published and sent out to all members. They should be dropping through letterboxes now or over the next few days. Contents to look forward to include: * Three featured layouts * Building the new NGS kit: a KSA...

Re: Which Magazine for N-Gauge?

Prior to seeing Collerton's buildings I was going to send in an outline for an article based on "a first time scratch builder's work since January 2014". See Rails through the Forest in N in this forum if you have time. I've had a quick scan through. The modelling looks fine to me, with n...
