Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

Hopefully i will be able to resume work on the Blue line soon, during the winter i have been building an addon board to be used either in the garage as part of the indoor layout, or during our long hazy days of summer, as part of the outdoor blue line. This addon board will be a model of Coegnant Co...

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

The Great British Summer has delayed, progress on the blue line, but i was pleasently suprised at how well the the trains ran outside after only a quick sweep of the leaves off the track, and only using the rail joiners for electrical continuity. It should be even more reliable when every section of ...

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

The exit from the workshop out to the garden layout has been made good using some filler on the inside and plastic barge board and foam sealer on the outside. [[/img] http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k407/paulsrail/DSCF0006-6.jpg [[/img] http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k407/paulsrail/t1.jpg

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

The layout in the workshop will include a historic model dockyard. The ships will be slightly out of scale being 1/90 which is a bit smaller than OO guuage being 1/76. To give you an idea how it will look i have posted a picture of a unfinished ship and some rolling stock. In fine weather the ships ...

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

I have thougt of drilling holes in the feather edge boards which are treated, as opposed to drilling straight down into the softwood which could cause problems in the long term.

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

I don,t know yet how the track will react to the welsh weather, but even indoors when using dcc the track needs regular cleaning. I will purchase the track which is guage-master flexi, being cheaper than peco, a few lengths at a time.

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

The garden railway is called the blue line because i wanted the layout to be a Railway in a garden, not bits of garden in a railway layout. In other words i wanted the Railway to blend in as much as possible, so to this end a lot of it was painted blue. [[/img] http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k40...

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

A hole was made in my workshop wall to enable a tunnel to be constructed to link the layout there with the garden layout. [[/img] http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k407/paulsrail/DSCF0001-5.jpg An incline from the garden railway to the tunnel exit was constructed. [[/img] http://i326.photobucket.co...

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

All the work has been done in the last few weeks. Progress was quite rapid because all the timber was all-ready in place, and i have a well equiped workshop as a result of my other hobby which is building wooden Nelson era ship models. There is a layout in the workshop which links to the garden layo...

Re: The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

The next syage was to cover the Bitumen treated timber with roofing felt. The two bridge sections were covered on both top and bottom because when not in use they wil be left folded back in the open position. The Blue Line OO Garden Rail

The Blue Line is being constructed as a result of having a load of timber left over from a loft conversion. The first stage will consist of a double loop of approx 30 metres http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k407/paulsrail/DSCF0007.jpg The method of construction was determined by the shear volume o...
