Re: Heljan Class 35 Hymek. Any good?

The blue one with the white window surrounds & a small yellow panel looks excellent.
Perhaps my favourite livery for this loco. Doesn't look as good with the later yellow or the earlier plain blue

Re: Which green DMU with speed whiskers??

Having read this, I truly regret selling my green 105
On the flipside, I'll find a good green 2-car set sometime.

Re: Heljan Class 35 Hymek. Any good?

The old Triang one was a 1966 release and, while definitely not as good as the Heljan one, it has actually stood the test of time reasonably well. I have one with the original non-ringfield motor bogie style which I have double-motored, through-wired, converted to DCC and detailed up a bit with sep...

Re: Any Model Shops in Sunderland/Newcastle

And a pub meal at the Shepherd/Shepherdess outside of Beamish around lunchtime is good value.
They did two meals at lunchtime for around a tenner.

Re: Any Model Shops in Sunderland/Newcastle

Skyblue & PeterM have mentioned the two I was going to suggest.
Both are very good & I visited them when I was up in April.
DTOS is perhaps a bit of a hike, but IS worth it. Just check the opening times, cos he's closed on Weds & Suns.

Re: Hornby Thomas 70th Anniversary

AFAIK, the model they make is his "new shape"(a black five I think).
It would be nice, as I got my lad a good proportion of the range (Edward was the other one of the original Eight Famous I didn't get).

Re: Items you Regret Selling.....

My Dad bought eight of mine. Loads of my A4s (SNG & Mallard in garter blue: UoSA, Bittern, Canada & Eisenhower in green) plus Green Arrow & Tornado (both Bachmann) at £100 each. All are DCC so he'll use them with his EZ controller. He said he'd rather have them off me than buy from a str...

Re: Hornby Thomas 70th Anniversary

Just wondering how many extra Henry models might need to be produced to satisfy demand?
Im one of a few who didn't get the character & suspect he'll be a popular model.

Re: Items you Regret Selling.....

I had a think about this & had a massive clearout last year. Certainly I do regret selling one or two items in hindsight now. My NRM Midland 1000, a Lion, lovely black five, my Bachmann 37250 & ViTrains DRS class 37, Bachmann 3Fs (both the tank & tender ones) & a GWR Pannier.However,...

Re: Hornby A4 "Kingfisher"

Given that I know Kingfisher was one of only four to have the "experimental" blue/ultramarine, can anyone answer this (please)? Ive had a look on Modelmaster & Fox & wondering which decals would I require to completely repaint a tender? Im not sure what transfers I need for the red...

For this particular class, I'd always choose a Hornby over the Bachmann.

Re: Hornby Railroad

Certainly David, you hit on a positive point about RR. My dad has found the range a godsend. He too is concerned about fine physical detailing a chore if he breaks a bit off a loco & it ends up being "eaten" by a vacuum. The latest acquisition, his COTN P2 TTS model, is nicely decorate...

Re: Loco nameplates

MM used to sell individual bits on Ebay, but now you can only get full "loco packs" now. Frustrating that I only need a pair of A4 BR number transfers to do 60024 Kingfisher. Fox sent me etched plates, but no cabside numbers. Having to paint a '4' to match has been a headache, so I'll do a...
