Boxes - keep or throw away?

I am sure many of us have kept the boxes locomotives, carriages and wagons have come in - I have a mountain of them and am deciding whether to keep them or throw the lot. When not in use, I store locos etc in larger boxes separated by foam sheets or tissue paper. I only really used the boxes last wh...

Re: East Cheltwell

I decided to fix the short-circuit on one of the points. The layout is DCC with electro-frog points; old school with Peco PL-10 and PL-15 switches. It was a little difficult to try and work under the baseboards. I also managed to break a wire connection which involved getting out the soldering iron....

Re: East Cheltwell

Worked some more this afternoon - one fiddly area is a Peco PL-15 switch. This is causing a short-circuit and looks simple enough to adjust only it's a little hard to access! I also decided to freshen up some static grass which seem to have faded. This is the 'before'. I find the Noch puffer bottle ...

Re: East Cheltwell

Thought I would give a brief update - seems like ages since I last posted, but here we are in 2018! I have been working, albeit rather slowly, on bring East Cheltwell back to life - vey dusty and cobwebby; locos seemed a little sluggish, but after a few circuits starting running quite smoothly. I ha...

Re: Track cleaning

After several, several months of neglect , I ran some trains on East Cheltwell . I did need to so some scrubbing with a Peco eraser which cleaned up the rails, but left some residue. Long ago, I had a an old Hornby Track cleaning Wagon which used methylated spirits, but alas I havit no longer - I ha...

Re: Derby Friargate LNER/ BR garage layout

Hi there - sounds like a interesting quest.- No doubt, you have already found the nice picture taken by Ron Fisher in April 1964 here . I did find an interesting article from the Derby Telegraph - sorry can't be too much help - I based my layout on Chalford and found some great resources on YouTube ...

Re: East Cheltwell

Thanks for the comments - I do come by NRM on a regular basis; unfortunately, family and work commitments do take their toll and the layout gets sidelined - And the wood effect on the lineside hut is great too - is it actual wood? - this is a Wills Platelayers hut with various layers of acrylics and...

Re: East Cheltwell

:o Goodness - it's certainly been a while! The usual plethora of excuses - the main one being busy with work an family. East Cheltwell is still extant and I have run trains and done bits and bobs and the usual pottering around. I have also been travelling fair bit - including a nice trip to the UK w...

Re: Frankland: N gauge Southern Railway

Lovely update and as exquisite as ever! On taking off one's hat, I found a newspaper advertisement here for some new fangled hats from the Americas! For the minute detail; do have a special magnifying glasses or similar. I am always amazed at the details and how they are achieved. Thanks for the upd...

Re: East Cheltwell

Yikes = No posts since March? Have to confess that work has been taking a lot of time plus a family bereavement and other summer priorities - still, I had a couple of days off and to the basement I went! Not too dusty or cobwebby, cleaned up the track and checked the electrics and points. There was ...

Re: A question about Code 75 track and suitable wheels

I have a layout with Peco Code 75 track and electrofrog streamline points - I did have an issue with Lima rolling stock (especially coaches), but with advice from this forum managed to grind down the flanges somewhat with a dremel. This allowed the coaches to run freely without clunking over sleeper ...
