Re: An Appeal for Help

As far as i'm aware to gain a listed building is mainly because of its age, rarity....architectural merit and method of construction Lets try and take each point and try to add some info  Age - The older a building is...then its more likely to get listed. As far as i'm aware, this building was...

Re: EWS 37/4s sold to DRS - Allegedly

It may be the rumoured deal that was going around the blocks a few months ago. DRS would buy them, overhaul 6-8 with the other's as spares (or if they're feeling really flash with cash, do the lot!) and then an agreement would be set up so that DBS could hire them back and use them on RA5 work or ra...

Re: 50033 Glorious

Yes its still stored at Tyseley locomotive works/museum...(it may have been shunted to the nearby depot). A few members from the 50021 group i believe are working on it inbetween their own committments on 50021.

Re: Class 70 Ooops

From the images, it appears that they dropped it first on one end, tried to re-lifted it and dropped it on the other end? Not as quite  The Crane failed and it was dropped from 20ft up straight onto the floor of the Ship (from what i got told by a driver).. So many tonnes of loco in the air x...

Re: Class 60

I thought that £30-40K for a whole loco was nothing mate.. Locos are for sale. But nothing's been said about whole ones.... lol.. I think your all rather pessimistic about the situation.. Not at all, Talking from experience of seing groups set up and the associated costs of just maintaining a small...

Re: Class 60

That all?? Then i assume £20k+ to get her into preserved condition, and then a good £10k a year after that? Not at all.....it will cost £30-40k+ just to buy the loco on the tender bid as the individual/group are bidding against Scrap Merchants who will know the current price of scrap at that time. ...

Re: Class 60

What would it cost an individual to acquire one of these loco's DBS has just put up for sale?? Obviously thousands to keep going. if my memory serves me, the original 100 cost £100M.. 130 tonnes x the current price of scrap metal per tonne....i think was £210 the other week = £27,300 plus VAT on to...

Re: Class 60

I'm curious, were the 60 preservation group expecting the 60s to be put up for sale a bit later (a couple of years later) because if so would they have enough money to buy a 60 atm? I think the sensible option for the Class 60 preservation group is to hold back and wait untill much better examples ...

plus with this new signalling on the cambrian, the 158s are not compatible so there is a rumour that 170s are to be used on the aberystwyth to birmingham section while the 158s will be machynlleth tywyn and north. Some if not most of the ATW fleet of 158s are fitted with the new ERTMS system being ...
