Re: Would you like syncrosmoke with your locos?

Hi I love the concept of synchronous smoke and I have plenty of smoke units in my locos. Mind you I voted "no" because I dont want 1960's technology in my loco. I want it updated to suit DCC. I want the option to switch on/off when I want and to be able to control the rate of smoke. I have...

Re: Stay-alive capacitor hacking

Hi No chance; I'd get one with a stay-alive built in if I was spending that sort of money. I didn't get better motor control. Its handling characteristics were identical, except that it didn't ever stall. Remember, the decoder is still doing all the driving. I'm just keeping the decoder powered up. ...

Re: Stay-alive capacitor hacking

Hi Once again well done. Now did you find you got better motor control at lower speeds and smoother running? I understand needing the cuppa afterwards, can you imagine the pressure when doing this inside a multi layered loksound decoder? I am going to be very blunt here, firstly I think you have don...

Re: Hornby Britannia class query

Hi No traction tires at all fitted on the new models that appeared in the last 3 or so years. Now I can say without a shadow of a doubt here that this loco is one of Hornby's finest builds. The loco oozes class and quality. It is loco driven, 5 pole motor plenty of weight over the drive wheels, and ...

Re: LED's burning?

Hi

Sounds like you have filament bulbs, LED's do not generate heat, only for a nano second before they burn out. Where did you get said lights and can we see a photo or a link to a photo.

Cheers

Re: Stay-alive capacitor hacking

Hi Outstanding post and well done on taking the first steps. I think you have provided an excellent trial and error topic on the "stay alive" caps. I hope you dont mind a little bit of advice on this subject. Can I suggest you go for the biggest caps possible that you can fit in. 2000uF is...

Re: heljan class 14

Hi Yes as long as they are all the same type of whites but on the neg leg of the red put a 3 k resistor as reds are voltage thief's. I always wire my LED's with a resistor in series on the neg leg. No dont wire your leds in series keep it parallel....it is only 2 extra wires. All the wiring is there...

Re: heljan class 14

Hi As to who has sound I dont know.....I am building my own from recording I have pick up. I generally find stripping the loco to its bare shell (diesels especially) really helps but it depends on what you want to achieve. I want good quality sound so I will put in the biggest fully sealed speaker p...

Re: heljan class 14

Hi Plenty of room for sound in the class 14 for a micro or lok 3.5. All you need to do is remove all the clutter and hardwire. If you remove the PCB board you have so much more room. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t243/Martinmc71/Heljan%20Class%2014%20Teddy%20Bear/018.jpg http://i162.photobucket...

Re: tornado

Hi A couple of more points I think firstly it is an outstanding model. Worth getting. It has no removal coal load so you have to cut that out if you want to add you own real coal. It also has no firebox detail but that does not bother me in the slightest. I have A1s, though not this latest Tornado v...

Re: electrocution

Poor guy,

Some very simple advice

If your not qualified don't touch it, leave it to the professionals!

If you are

Isolate, lock off and tag, test the tester, test before you touch.

Stay safe
