Re: Hornby ex Lima DMUs

I have two BR blue Hornby class 101 3-car sets and one drive unit has tyres and one has not. Both were purchased new from the same dealer at the same time. Then I would suggest that the one without tyres is a slightly earlier manufacture than the one with tyres. Entirely feasible the two different ...

Re: Hornby ex Lima DMUs

Hornby do not fit traction tyres to their design of motor bogie, that replaces the Lima design - which were always traction tyred - and there's the start of the problem. It was very quickly realised when complaints started to roll in that the design of their bogie which replaced the lima drive unit...

Re: Unrebuilt bulleid poor haulage ability

Later versions of the unrebuilt WC/BoB do not have the sprung rear axle and the running quality is an improvement as a result. I have "92 Squadron" and "Blackmoor Vale" and I also have 34041 which has been fitted with a later chassis. The difference between them is quite noticeab...

Re: Bachmann Voyager Very Slow

As an addition to my remedy I would just say that I have successfully done this with two Voyager units now and they both had instant improvement in speed, I have since sold both units to fund purchase of other items more in keeping with what I like to model. As a word of caution though, my remedy di...

Re: Bachmann/Kernow 4-TC units

Don't think that's nearly fast enough for a scale ton! All eight coaches need to pass a fixed point in 3.5 seconds. (One can never be quite sure of video timings that have been taken and manipulated on uncalibrated equipment, so apols in advance if that's what Kernow physically demonstrated.) You'l...

Re: Bachmann/Kernow 4-TC units

You don't have to wait and see that. Kernow have posted videos of 8-TC formations at speed being propelled. The video can be seen Here

Re: 32-286 Class 101 2-car DMU questions

The Bachmann class 101 has a slightly different internal lighting arrangement to previous DMUs in so much as the internal lighting is not attached to the bodywork and is an integral extension to the chassis. In other words both coaches have a "false ceiling" which is part of the interior d...

Re: Unrebuilt bulleid poor haulage ability

Whilst "air smoothed" was the original term for the unrebuilt locos. Unrebuilt became the name for them when the rebuilds started to appear so in actual fact both terms are correct for the locos that were not rebuilt. Unrebuilt became the popular name and that is how most people refer to t...

Re: Garden Railway Basic Techniques

Mine started life as a non digital layout but progressed to digital when it became more popular and I took the plunge to do it. Would never go back to analogue now. The sight and sound of a class 50 with DCC sound and 10 Bachy Mk2s round the garden is pure joy!

Re: Garden Railway Basic Techniques

I've had a simple OO gauge garden railway for the best part of 15 years now and have never used bus wires on the line at all. The line feed is via two wires to each line in the shed with two booster feeds at two points round the layout, admittedly these are in the form of twin wires but I wouldn't d...

Can the Dynamis read CVs? Read CV8 for the Manufacturer Id and CV 7 for the version.

Ok i have now managed to read the two CVs above using a borrowed pro box. CV 7 is 117 and CV 8 reads 125 can anyone shed light on those?

Unknown Sound decoder

I have recently purchased a Bachmann class 44 diesel which is fitted with a sound decoder but the seller wasn't able to tell me what make the decoder is. Having now received said loco, I too am now baffled as to what make of sound decoder it is. It is an 8-pin decoder wrapped in black heat shrink wi...
