Well I spoke with Peters spares and its seems my only option is a new chassis as the compatible wheels aren't avaible. Managed to find one ebay.

Re: Rebuilt merchant navy repair

I would imagine the battle of Britain class would do, I've already opened it up as I was trying to rebuild the cog. It's really odd with hornby, I spoke to a chap on the phone who seemed willing to help, I sent in a picture as requested and told to go a 3rd. I tried several and the only one who repl...

Re: Rebuilt merchant navy repair

I believe hornby referred me to him, I haven't had a response as usual.

Rebuilt merchant navy repair

I've been trying to find someone who can repair the merchant navy from the red box orient express box. Tried hornby and various other places. Basically the cog on the wheel has snapped into 3 (it was second hand). Anyone have any suggestions, the people I've tried don't get back to me or simply seem...

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

That's awesome Chris, I certainly wasn't expecting you to design it again. I think at bed I'll have it against the wall and move it out a bit when I'm use (now that you mention it, it would be a pain when building). I'm probably going to reduce the siding a little so I can have a bit more scenery. I...

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

That's awesome thank you, I really like the second one, looks perfect for what I'm wanting to do. That would work along the back wall. I may stick with the set track due to my budget (and being able to use what came with the set).

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

Well if you have a few others like this I'd like to take a look. We sorted of decided sharing the play room is a good idea, she'd use it more. The orient express does come with a fair bit of track anyway. It's going to be converted to dcc once I Ave a few more trains, I think the extra couple of for...

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

Emettman actually designed it and posted it in another topic, wouldn't the green section be fine under DCC? I've already looked into the cost of converting it, not too bad. Yeah exactly, I've been tempted by N but I saw the orient express going for £130 on Hattons, kinda sealed the deal for me (was ...

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

Lol yeah I know Chris, I did however find something you posted that might work with a few tweaks, 10x4 should be doable in one of the rooms.

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

Having the broader ends removable would certainly be an option, I had wondered if having a shelve type layout that loops back itself would work. We are going to have a look at the room options so she isn't too triggered about losing space. I may have to resort to something like an enlarged track mat...

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

Well I can do a 10x4 in the bedroom (as we have a massive bedroom. We are going to look at what space we have. I do have a large bay window to also play with on both floors. I've been a little concerned with the little one coming in and waking us up playing with it (she's already nicked it a few tim...

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

Very true, I might be better off with something indoor, we have a play room downstairs and a large bedroom I could probably do a 10x2 using a helix on either end to make them continus round (I've seen these for sale on ebay). How viable do you think that would be? I could do it wider but the 7 year ...

Re: Returning to the hobby and looking for suggestions.

Well it's an old metal one and we are renting, so I'm obviously open to suggestions on what would be the best thing to do. It's got the space for a nice shelve layout (even if it doubled back on itself). Other than I have a fair large house so I could have one that I take apart when not in use and j...
