As you say, it breaks up the monotonous look of the engine. As for spending goes, that is my lot for a while. Well, until the Beyer Garratt arrives... Re: PeterH's Great Central themed layout.

Hello all, New job means I now have some money to carry on with the layout. I bought 2 boxes of Code 75 track at Railex yesterday to start with. A trip down to B&Q or Homebase will provide me with bolts and wing-nuts and I can then start working on assembly. I need to build two more corners as w...

Re: Hornby N2

Quite a few of the Hornby ex-Dapol etc. locos had considerably quieter motors than their predecessors. The 14xx, Pug and N2 as you say are some of the notable examples.

Re: SWHMRS Annual Exhibition 10th May Watford TOMORROW!

You would find it sad the way it has deteriorated - probably good you didn't go there! We had 3 major leaks from the roof and had to move a layout and a trader to stop them being rained upon! Other than that the exhibition went really well, a fair few visitors.

Re: schools class smoke deflectors

I used some spares off the old tooling model. If you could get hold of some of those it would do the trick. A bit of trimming is required due to the steam pipes. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u47/PeterHHodge/DSCF3381-1.jpg There is another option of contacting South Eastern Finecast and getting...

Re: Bachmann "Midnight Metropolitan" class 57XX

Trains running to Croxley Tip would have to travel passed the site onto Watford, where the pannier would have to detach and run round (filling up with water at the end of the platform at the same time - I believe the water tower is now at Quainton Road but someone will have to confirm that), then tr...

Geoff Plumb's photos are jolly good. The trick with these Panniers is to plaster them in a layer of grime!

Re: South West Herts. MRS - P.3; Tedburn at East Grinstead M

I can't believe it has been a year since I last posted on this thread! Since then we've taken Tedburn out to 6 exhibitions last year, ending in Warley. This year we've only got one confirmed booking in Lutterworth! We've also bought an ex-Bushey MRS layout, which was a fictional SDJR 'Frome' station...

Re: PO wagons - replacement plank effect

As said above, brown paints and patience. I find taking your time with the finest paintbrush available is a best approach. Also scrape off any lettering underneath the plank or it will show through. A nice effect is to paint one or two planks, weather, then paint another few planks to show maintenan...
