Looks pretty sweet even now. As for the track, the rails actually look fine, you just need to tone down the dark sleepers. On my (real) railway the rust leaches off them and on to the sleepers and ballast. You can tell them all apart, but its different shades and tones of the same (rust) colour rath...

I do like a busy railway with lots of trains so that looks great. The only niggly little criticism is that for the steam era stuff there are probably a little too many cars on the road. we were the first family in our street to have a car; everybody else caught a bus - or the train.

Alright it may be out of scale and out of period but it still looks pretty convincing to me and that's what all this is about. Very tasty.

Really nice detail - I particularly liked the car park, but those long shots of the railway were pretty convincing

You can use bricks for the portal with a big sooty black smudge at the top of the arch, but inside all that you need is thick matt black paint

Waste of time, or rather bricks, its all going to be thickly covered in soot so plain matt black will be far more realistic - and effective. Remember to paint the back black as well - unless of course you want some "light at the end of the tunnel"

It may have been overlooked in all the excitement of relocation but before you get too far into building up the hill around the tunnel, you really ought to paint the interior of the tunnel black, or better still insert a black card lining to give you the arched roof. You'll certainly need one for the crossover. The signal will be there to tell the driver whether he's clear to proceed on to that inner branch-line. Sidings work the same way. If its within a yard the shunter may work a ground-frame without anything more complicated than hand-signals to the driver. ...

Really depends on you. There are basically two things signals are used for: one is block working and the other is for junctions. Block working is straightforward: the line is divided into blocks and the signal is used to tell the driver whether the block ahead is clear or not. Junctions are similar....
