Re: Steam Locomotives. The Pioneering Years.

Locomotion Number 1 was running in 1825 at the opening of the Stockton-Darlington line. Not Stevenson's first but generally acknowledged as the first steam locomotive on the first public railway.

Re: Any idea how much the flying scotsman 3 other (trix Germany)

Typical prices for Minitrix locos run from £30-£70 depending on condition, box etc. Flying Scotsman and the A4 command more because of the real thing's popularity. So maybe £100+ for Flying Scotsman????

Re: Uncoupler

I've a shunting layout that uses Dapol easi-shunt couplers. They're NEM compatible so if you have none NEM stock you'll need to convert them to NEM with the Dapol kit.

They work quite well and I only fit the magnetic uncouplers to each end of a rake of wagons, and both ends of brake vans.

You're right b308, it's not relevant to our hobby, but Joe Public isn't going to look at it like that.

Re: Tonight. The Biggest Little Railway in the World

Is there any way we can get the programme put out of it misery before they show the next episode? Compared to James May's attempt at something similar, and in OO, this is a complete shambles. It's an embarrassment to the hobby.

The N gauge offering gives me little inspiration too!

I'm still waiting for a J72 to appear, it was first mooted for 2015/16!

Re: how to make a 'pickup' wagon

On a past layout in N gauge using Fleischmann track I had a number of 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 locos that stuttered and stalled over the frogs. Peco track was even worse! While my latest layouts, using Kato Uni-Track , have no such problem. However to get my locos running on the Fleischmann I made several pi...

Re: Tonight. The Biggest Little Railway in the World

I watched and on first sight of their track thought, this is going to be trouble! The whole idea is good, execution so far mediocre, except the bridge which was am accident certain to happen. . Not a good advert for our hobby, but better than nothing. As for engineering, my fully qualified and certi...

Re: 4'x2' fully scenic 'N' gauge layout

One reason that, over the last 40+ years, I've gone from Peco to Fleischmann and then to Kato track was the search for good running over pointwork. While Kato #4 points have a bad name, I've found them much more forgiving, and reliable, than either of the other two brands. I had, in my Peco layouts,...
