Re: Hattons Raising Funds

I picked up an 03 shunter for less than I'd been prepared to pay on eBay. Well pleased, although HSBC might not be so chuffed.

Re: Hattons new Website Oh Dear.....

I can see Track Shack and many other sellers will see an increase in sales too. Hattons are huge in the model railway world but appear, having taken careful aim, to have cunningly shot themselves in both feet!

Re: Hattons new Website Oh Dear.....

I had another look and I take back my previous comments. It's worse than railsofsheffield.

As the Rails site meant I spent most of my cash with Hattons I can almost hear the Rails people rubbing their hands together.

Re: Hattons new Website Oh Dear.....

I've just looked and it's still better than Railsofsheffield, although anything worse than Rails' site is hard to imagine.

Re: A quandry of scale.

I started n gauge back in 1974, we had a 1 up/2 down rented hovel and it was all that I could fit in. The layout stood on it's side behind the settee when not in use. I always thought that I'd move to 00 when space was no longer at such a premium, but somehow, despite a divorce entailing selling my ...

Re: The final day of steam

The attitudes to drinking at work or at breaks was totally different back then, I remember working in the steel industry in the 1970s an 80s and most guys went for a few pints before going on a Friday Nightshift, even the staff would go out for a pub lunch on a Friday and have two or three pints be...

Peck make one as does Fleischmann, but that is scenically very intrusive.

Re: Are Model Shows Worth Visiting?

What is not on offer, from most layouts, is well chosen, well run prototypical trains.. Really? The exhibition I was at on Sunday the majority had prototypical trains, even the SG N gauge one. That goes for most exhibitions I've attended this year. It's worth bearing in mind that there were many di...

Re: Are Model Shows Worth Visiting?

I find most shows offer ideas for me to copy or avoid! Also there's the chance to pick up secondhand bargains and to see latest releases from the manufacturers. What is not on offer, from most layouts, is well chosen, well run prototypical trains. Which makes the odd layout which offers this such a ...

Re: Labeling Idea. (Important!)

Define close coupling... Is the mechanical devices in the coaches which will pull the couplings in when the bogies are set straight (When on straight track) and they push the couplings out when the bogie turns, and in so doing prevent buffer lock. While a novel idea, I've found these to be a right ...

Re: Labeling Idea. (Important!)

To me this is a great idea. However from the manufacturers' point if view I can see issues. Radius. If it plainly states 2nd Radius and some badly laid '2nd radius' track is on the purchasers layout, and I've seen some, then who's responsible for derailments? Close coupling. Define close. NEM. Is ea...

Re: Hattons Pre-owned site

It's not just their used section. I placed an order for three brand-new locos on Easter Saturday, two had 10+ in stock the other 3. When the order was still 'open' on the following Thursday I contacted them only to be told two were out of stock as they were having stock control issues (again). I ask...

Sad to see Hornby yet again in need of rescue. I suspect the post Brexit exchange rate changes have hit it pretty hard, as they have other brands.

Re: Simple or Complex?

I started in N gauge long ago. I like the sound of some of the new dcc sound locos as they pull away, but I've never seen and heard a sound equipped locomotive at speed. By which I mean doing a scale 60-80 mph. At a show last year I asked an exhibitor if he'd really get his sound equipped steam loco...
