Re: How Did You Start In Model Railways.

An observation here gentlemen we all seem to have to many locomotives and stock. Or is it that our layouts are just not big enough. I suspect that's not true. :D :D Given 100' by 100' and as many points as I could use, I calculate it would take a few months to be back into a too much stock situatio...

Re: Legality or moral ethics

What might be a stumbling block here is proving that the person received the wrong item. IIRC Hattons stuff, if sent buy courier, you do have to sign for, and that would be proof you had received it. However smaller items seem to be delivered by royal mail and aren't signed for. Remember that the o...

Re: Kato Eurostar power cars uncoupling

I love Kato and have many items from them, the issue I have is that they use different couplings in some of their multiple units. So my series 100/110 KiHa dmus have one style shared by my HB E300, the two Shinkansen E3s have another, while my KRT 3000s have the usual Rapido. Add to this that they o...

Re: How Did You Start In Model Railways.

At 3 or so I was given an old 0 gauge clockwork set. two 0-4-0T locos, one LMS, the other LNER, both identical boxes on wheels, plus some rolling stock and a few points. I must have looked after it as at 5yr 6 months Father Xmas brought me an Hornby-Dublo Duchess of Montrose with a couple of Blood a...

I too vaguely remember an article in a magazine, Railway Modeller sometime in the 1970s IIRC.

Re: The internet and its effect on online sales

As an avid N gauger, I won't buy a Dapol locomotive in store. Their terrible failure rate 'out of the box' means buying with a guaranteed 30 day no quibble return makes it safer to buy online, run in, or at least attempt to do so and decide whether to keep it. Out of 5 9Fs I kept 2, out of 3 Britan...

Re: Future Concepts and Traditions.

I'm sat watching my kit built LNER Sentinel railcar and a Union Mills J26 hauled coal train lap my layout. I could do some end to end work, with shunting, on the Branch but I'm happy, browsing, watching and drinking coffee while listening to the radio.

We had one at our photo club. But the furthest she'd go was to take off her cardigan. :D

Re: "Previously Owned" via certain big on-line shop

George, I have purchased literally hundreds of "pre-owned" stock from the store and in general if they state "like new" then they are correct. Read my "Pre-owned Windfall" thread in this forum section. In all my purchases I could count on one hand the number of items t...

Re: Legality or moral ethics

I now have three incorrect items sent 'in error' and two correct replacements for those items. In both cases the seller offered to send me a returns label with the replacement. They didn't! If they do they'll get the incorrect item back but as they didn't I'll give them a year and then it's mine. I ...

Re: Early BR coach colour(s)

I too can confirm that Blood and Custard could vary vastly, particularly due to fading and dirt. However I suspect that different shades were applied by different shops as well. I distinctly remember seeing an ECS rake of 10-12 coaches pulled through Darlington station by an A4. The loco was a grubb...

I picked up an 03 shunter for less than I'd been prepared to pay on eBay. Well pleased, although HSBC might not be so chuffed.

Re: Hattons new Website Oh Dear.....

I can see Track Shack and many other sellers will see an increase in sales too. Hattons are huge in the model railway world but appear, having taken careful aim, to have cunningly shot themselves in both feet!
