Re: Another newbie..

At last...after a couple of aborted attempts due to life getting in the way, I am now about to make a start on my little layout. Hopefully, next week will see the track ballasted and a start made on some scenery. I also need to acquire a small tank loco and maybe a couple more wagons, but there's no...

And I thought radio controlled submarines were technical...

I intend to study your reply and the images properly later on, probably with a large scotch for company...but for the moment, I shall content myself by saying "Thank you" for taking the time and the trouble to reply.

Re: Another newbie..

Aah, yes...there was a section on the original plan that had that in it, I removed it to shrink the image somewhat. I hadn't really thought about it , but seeing as how I intend only to run one loco ( my Helijan Railbus) and one of those new Bachmann motorised trollies, will I really need a fiddle y...

Re: Another newbie..

I think that maybe I should explain this a bit more...the layout was copied from a magazine, just because I liked the look of it, and it looked reasonably simple for a complete beginner to put together. I don't intend to have the cement works in mine, I thought about having maintenence shed in that ...

Re: Another newbie..

Quite true...the layout will be altered here and there, and a small platform will be incorporated somewhere.

Re: Another newbie..

No software...copied, pasted from a magazine and altered a bit. I have a name for the layout...'Rickney Junction' (Rickney is a tiny village near where I was brought up, and was going to be part of the Cuckoo Line. I now live alongside where the Cuckoo Line used to run, my front door is yards from i...

Re: Another newbie..

Well, I have already settled on the size...I can't go too big, because the layout will have to be put away after each session, it's going to live on top of the wardrobe when not being worked on or in use. Baseboard is to be 72" long and 18" wide, and I have a Heljan railbus (don't ask why,...

Re: Another newbie..

Aww, thanks guys...it's doubtful that there will be many hgv's on the layout, I might find room for something small though. Depends...

Another newbie..

Hi all,

Thanks for having me on your forum...I'm Richard, I'm a retired HGV trucker (on health grounds), and live in Sussex.

I'm a total newcomer to model railways, just in the planning stages of my first ever layout. I'll apologise in advance for the barrage of questions that will be coming...
