Re: Laying the track on a grass mat

Yes, and why not, it is your railway after all ! A prime case of Rule 1 I think. So, to answer your question :- I dont see why not. I've not done it myself but I have a test oval of Peco settrack laid on folded kitchen roll on a table top. That runs ok, except that it is not pinned down so every now...

Re: Wordsworth Card Kits - FREE downloads

Hi all, thanks for your words of encouragement. "long live the three foot rule, or 18 inches" - I like it (had to google it first ! :) ) , yes that makes a lot of sense especially with my aged eyes ! "it makes the kit more personal all my kits are ready to go" - Indeed they are a...

Re: Wordsworth Card Kits - FREE downloads

Hi all, interesting suggestion by Bufferstop, I feel an ebay search for some envelopes is due :) I think my N gauge railway will soon have a new station building. (at least - - I thought that until I exposed it to the cruel light of a flash and a macro :( I think a Mk3 is needed. ) https://preview.i...

Re: Wordsworth Card Kits - FREE downloads

one of my early designs so long back. Hope this helps. Oh yes, so it is :) ! Still looks good to me  and I have chosen that one because the location I am modelling had an arched entrance with a stand alone water tower removed a short distance from it. Yep, I'll be doing that one later assu...

Re: Wordsworth Card Kits - FREE downloads

Hi Mike & all, I'm having a bit of argument with my printer getting its settings right ! Can someone tell me how wide and high the front of the Single Road Engine Shed RS10 should be ? I have 90mm wide by 116mm high to the apex (entrance = 50mm wide) , is that about right ? Or, if that one is no...

Re: Yet another return

Thanks E2e, very interesting. Ha, staples ! I hadnt thought of them, I've been using the thin wire out of bag ties ,,,so yes, good idea a staple may have more iron and be easier to manipulate, I'll give it a try. A word of warning to the wise : the bad news is that the staples are less flexible and...

Re: Riccarton Junction in N gauge

I must apologize for the poor depth of view (distant focus) apparently this is caused by a large aperture in turn caused by insufficient lighting. Me-thinks I will either have to invest in arc-lights (and potentially burn the house down) or read the camera's manual OMG!! omg! indeed, or worse still...

Airfix in Hislop

Watching a re-run of Hislop "Off the Rails" (Edit PS : well worth a view if you have not already caught it, very well done and well reports the dilemma of the era ! ) this evening on BBC4 I had a subliminal flash of Airfix. I have since downloaded it off iPlayer and I was not mistaken, the...

Re: LED wiring on mimic panel

While I personally haven't tried one of these they should do the job if used in the static mode... ebay link Nice find, that looks interesting, thanks. Reminds me of a joke from years ago about :- The far-eastern electronics engineer who was so successful that he had to move into smaller premises !

Re: LED wiring on mimic panel

Quick question. Can I use a variable resistor like a dimmer switch for the whole panel so I can set the brightness? Quick answer : not ideal :) ! Longer answer : I've not thought in-depth about it but I think you would be better off with a variable voltage supply to adjust (all the LEDs with their ...

Re: LED wiring on mimic panel

Morning all, a word of caution, I'm not happy with that BBC thingy ! "BBC bitesize website: ALL lights will be the same* brightness in a PARALLEL circuit" That will only be approx. true if each LED has its own current limiting resistor and then only true if all LEDs and all resistors are w...

Yet another return

Hello All, Yet another oldie returning to model railways ! Thanks for a very interesting forum with lots of good info to read through. Initially I had plans for a large attic room but it is unheated and winter is approaching rapidly! Also there is so much to learn/re-learn, so much has changed, ther...
