Replacing Dapol couplings

I really don't like the droopy couplings fitted to my Dapol wagons. How do I go about replacing them with something more like the nice ones on my Bachmann wagons?

Re: Bachmann 1F questions

It's suspensionless. Anyhow, I think I've now got to the bottom of the derailing. Both rear sandpipes seemed to be at the same height above the rail head when I first checked, but I noticed last night that the paint had worn off the underside of the very end of one of them. Whether that's the cause ...

Re: Bachmann 1F questions

I take your point, Bigmet, but I've just checked the loco by turning it upside down and watching the wheels rotate slowly with current applied via a couple of wires clipped to the track. There's a lot of run-out on one of the centre wheels (i.e. the wheel's nowhere near perpendicular to the axle) an...

Re: Bachmann 1F questions

What exactly is the evidence of sensitivity to track imperfections? It's just been running round an oval of Peco Code 75 track and electrofrog points with a half-circle of Setrack first rad at each end, with of course the Peco 75/100 adaptor thingies 'twixt one and t'other. No problems running forw...

Re: Bachmann 1F questions

Well, it's here and I'm well pleased with it for my £71.38 :)

Running in light as I type this, and I'm now wondering why it's far more sensitive to track imperfections when running bunker-first ...

Bachmann 1F questions

Would a Bachmann 1F be happy on my hidden Peco Setrack first radius curves? No reverse curves or anything - just two half circles at what amounts to opposite ends of a loop. Could I reckon on one being a good slow runner when properly run in? Control is standard Gaugemaster DC. And just out of curio...

Re: Replacement 00 carriage wheels

Well I managed to get a pack of Hornby 14.1mm diameter wheels (part #8218 and not 9218 as in thread title) at a sensible price and am pleased to confirm that these do indeed fit straight into the bogies of the Dapol 57' Staniers (4P-010-005 and 006) :)

Re: Replacement 00 carriage wheels

Oh well, so much for Dapol ... Thank you for your email but we are not able to help you, sorry. Are they always this helpful? ETA - Be that as it may, a helpful chap on the Hornby forum has just stated that the Hornby wheelsets in the pack I linked to are on 26mm axles, so I shall take a chance on t...

Re: Replacement 00 carriage wheels

These are new from Hatton's this week, but they look remarkably like the ones I had 30 years ago - even down to the large couplings.

Surely all that matters apart from wheel diameter is overall length of the axle? These plastic abominations are 14.6mm diameter on 25.8mm axles.

Re: Replacement 00 carriage wheels

Thanks, Geoff T. So ... unless anybody jumps on this thread and shouts "Don't buy those, they won't fit straight on" before morning, I'll order a pack of these http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/891_1_2600574.html and keep my fingers crossed.
