Re: Lighting BUS Wire Thoughts

Mine don't! :D Each building or set of street lights has it's own LDR (Light Dependent Resistor in the circuit). Because the LDRs point in different directions and the slight differences in the component specs, they come on as it it gets dark at slightly different times. There is only one switch to...

Re: Layout sounds

I am thinking of putting a second speaker in a different part of the layout and fit the mp3 output with a separate switch. I could then share the available 16 tracks between the station and the second area which is going to be a coal mine with some moving parts. I don't see the point of sharing! Th...

Re: Layout sounds

Thanks Timbersurf, you have given me some ideas there. Currently I have a station announcements set up. It has a single speaker directly underneath the station buildings. It is controlled by a 16-way logical rotary switch inputting to a Picaxe micro controller that in turns drives an mp3 player, wit...

Re: Super Capacitors for DC Running?

I've tried Stay Alive decoders and for me they just don't seem to work. I work in 00 DCC and most of my locos are 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 so no room for fly wheels even if I could fit one! And no spare wheels for additional pick ups. Why don't manufacturer's fit some kind of spring suspension to push the whe...

Re: Sound files

I've made some recordings of myself making announcements, you know the sort of thing "The train now standing...etc". People of my considerable age will remember in days gone by that you couldn't actually understand what the announcer was saying anyway so I recorded myself speaking into a t...

Re: Updating skills

Have just got myself an arduino uno board which I want to programme to operate servos that will control signals and points. There are a lot of 'sketches' available on the web so I don't think I have to reinvent the wheel - just modify one to suit. (servo speed and travel). Priced for a Uno board he...

Re: Updating skills

Hi Bufferstop, my career started with Air Radar training on joining the RAF as a boy of 16. Then we were trained down to component level, usually faulty valves (remember them?). On leaving the mob I (wisely) chose to go into computer maintenance and there I stayed till I swapped it for a desk job. I...

Re: Sound files

OK, I have a dropbox account. I'll see if anyone wants it first. By the way in case anyone doesn't know there is a very good free app for windows PC (might be other versions) to save You Tube videos to your PC. It's called ChrisPC Video Tube Downloader. Works a treat, that's how I got my sound files...

Re: Sound files

I've just recorded the sound of doors slamming followed by a guards whistle. If I say so myself it's not too shabby. Happy to share it, can I attach it to a post here? If not PM me with your email and I'll send it that way.

Re: Sound files

These are the 2 I found, there are probably better ones out there, but with a bit of mixing using Audacity I think they will do for me.

Sound files

Does anyone know a good (and free) source of train sounds. I particularly want a guard's whistle and the sound of the old fashioned slam doors being slammed shut just prior to departure, wav or mp3 preferred. I have searched the web but it all seems to be US oriented. Thanks. Edit: OK, found some my...

Re: Making a single gate move. HELP!

Sorry E2E, I was supposed to come back with a picture of of my LC under the board. I can tell you it's a similar arrangement to Buggleskelly above, using some spare bits of wood I had. Regarding the servo set up, depending on which controller you buy, there should be a way to set it up, probably wit...

Re: Red flashing lights odd behaviour

I built a cct recently which "worked" when I put my fingers across a couple of points on the board. It turns out I had a bad solder joint as after re-soldering the 2 points it never did it again. Perhaps when you added the capacitor you did much the same thing by re-soldering a dodgy solde...
