Re: OO Gauge Shed Layout

I can't seem to get to grips with SCARM, it doesn't seem very easy to use at all.

I have tried AnyRail with a element of success but any real planning normally leaves me downhearted as I realise I can't fit what I want to into the space available :)

Re: OO Gauge Shed Layout

Yes, my original "oh bugger" thought was that my track was flat on the baseboard but as you say, they can be higher than the surrounding land so I'll just stick the canal on a hill above the railway with maybe an aqueduct or something :) Canals are the main passion of mine so it seems daft...

Re: OO Gauge Shed Layout

I am learning quickly that although planning the track plan did my head in and I found it much easier to just lay track and see how it looked some planning is required as I'm now banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to add a canal to the layout.

Re: OO Gauge Shed Layout

Well I decided to give the Western a little service this lunchtime and it now runs silent again :)

Edited to add: a very short video from this evening https://youtu.be/ZCTC_kPt9AM

Re: OO Gauge Shed Layout

A few months after I last posted I had a "oh what the hell do I do" meltdown regarding the layout plan as I just couldn't get what I wanted to fit in the space to actually fit in the space! Figuring I was actually making things far too complicated I decided to go back to basics and just la...

Re: DCC Loco With DC Track

Track is all completely new, a mixture of Hornby 3rd and 4th radius curves and Peco Streamline flexible. Not sure what the most modern stock is, my old layout was dismantled in 1996 so nothing has been purchased since then but I imagine the last thing bought for it was the HST set in the mid-late 19...

Re: DCC Loco With DC Track

Thanks, that makes sense :)

I didn't want to go and spend a lot of money on something which I then found I'd have to buy controllers, etc in order to get it to work and render my existing DC stock unusable.

DCC Loco With DC Track

Something I've been wondering for a while is would a loco which comes with a decoder fitted work with a DC layout?

I'm thinking of treating myself to my first new loco in probably nearly 30 years and am a little confused.

Re: OO Shed Layout

I was going to have a go at planning it all out on the board tonight but it seems Photobucket is throwing a wobbly today and I can't view the images from yesterday.

Re: OO Shed Layout

Thanks once again! I do like the look of the second diagram, it has a lot more interesting features without impacting on the rest of the layout. I'll have to go and cut out some of the Peco points plans and lay them on the layout so I can see how well it fits. Oh, and for some reason I have a thing ...

Re: OO Shed Layout

I think I've come up with something far simpler which works. I also realised in my last post that I had one too many platforms! https://c3.staticflickr.com/6/5557/30123840474_c225cd5249_c.jpg Station_2 by Ian , on Flickr If I want to reverse a train I can cross over lines on the points before the cu...

Re: OO Shed Layout

The 'Double' slip is actually a single one and the idea being that I could use the upper platform for branchline services and any DMUs without blocking the main lines. However I can see you're right and that it isn't really doing much and the space could be used, as you say, for creating a through l...

Re: OO Shed Layout

I've been doing a lot of thinking about the layout over the last few days as well as watching YouTube videos. I think I've come up with something that may work for me. This is a rough idea and obviously it isn't to scale and doesn't show any pointwork, etc. https://c4.staticflickr.com/6/5769/3011601...

Re: OO Gauge Shed Layout

It's progressing around about two thirds of the loop but unfortunately I have run out of track so will have wait until the weekend when I can get out to buy some more. At the moment the track is being pinned in place with enough of the pin showing that I can remove it when I need to. At the moment i...
