Re: DCC loco only works if another Loco is running
Hi Ian/all, I think a lot of the problems with Flying Scotsman are down to track and wheels/electrical contacts. I got a small bit of time on Friday evening and cleaned two pairs of the main loco wheels ( not the driving wheels on the tender), with my newly arrived peco loco servicing kit, while doi...

Re: DCC loco only works if another Loco is running
I was only thinking afterwards that the one test I haven't tried is to swap the decoder from the Western Gladiator into Flying Scotsman...... I must try that next - once the table is back up, currently its up against the wall as I fit Peco point motors underneath. ( addess 0 - interesting - I am an ...

Re: DCC loco only works if another Loco is running
Thanks all, I will pick up a couple of Lenz Standard and see how I get on. What still mystifies me is why it worked normally for a while and now has stopped, and the symptoms are duplicated immediately with a different decoder( albeit from the same batch) - I would have expected it to work normally f...

Re: DCC loco only works if another Loco is running
Re addresses - I have had Flying Scotsman on 7, 8, 10 and 3 - same result on all.
I have reset the decoders to default and attempted to run them on default settings both on address 3 and on a changed address.
Thanks,
Ned.

Re: DCC loco only works if another Loco is running
Hi all, Yes, they are different addresses. I have also changed the address of F.S. and changed the decoder. What intrigues me is that Flying Scotsman worked fine with and without Western Gladiator around for a while and after being off for a while now displays these tendencies. Then it does work if ...

DCC loco only works if another Loco is running
Hi all, Taking my first steps into DCC ( before I do my own project in n gauge) I am converting my children's Hornby trackmat layout to DCC. I have picked up an e-link controller - clean installed an old PC for it, bought some Hattons 8 pin decoders and started soldering...... All went well to begin...

Re: 9" radius stock availability? Newbie question.
Thanks for the replies Gary - I have a link to my planning post in the original post above if that helps to see where I was going. What I realised after I had completed it was that the small radius peco turnouts were 9 inch radius instead of 12 so I think that rules it out - also I think the inside ...

9" radius stock availability? Newbie question.
Hi all, I'm mulling over a track plan based on CJF's plan 3 http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=49410 But l'm caught between trying to keep to 12" radius and keeping it small enough to act as a "test" layout. If my research is correct Graham Farish say...

Re: Starting in N - Design/Track questions
Thanks Chris, Interesting to see those photos. The more I look at it ..... The more I want to make it smaller. However I think it would have to be the medium turnouts to keep it at 12" radius ( Graham Farish min radius from memory ) which would make it bigger again, so I think I may need to ret...

Re: Starting in N - Design/Track questions
I then did a bit of scenery to get a feel for how it might look and then stopped before I lost the run of myself. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1491/24830014311_f6dda44d1f_b.jpg The stock list I felt would be quite small - two locos for container traffic, three container rakes, plus 2-3 other train...

Re: Starting in N - Design/Track questions
I watched Rudy's Youtube videos on SCARM and on the third attempt it finally clicked ( i.e. I was finally able to use it to some degree) and I came up with the following: It consists of three hidden storage roads, on a continuous run with a reverse loop, rising to a two road container terminal with ...

Starting in N - Design/Track questions
Hi all, I'm looking to get started with a small n gauge layout to get a feel for modelling in n before I move on to a larger layout ( attic ..... new shed.....) . Anyway, I have always fancied plan 3 from C.J. Freezer's 60 small plans ( low level oval with a reverse loop, some sidings, a hidden loop...
