Ply Or Chipboard

Hi All, This will probably divide opinion so here goes. What are the members views regarding a base board, would you use plywood or chipboard (moisture resistant), also what is the ideal thickness, last time I used ply but I got what I paid for, lets say it twisted after few months. Thanks in advanc...

Covid Rip Off or Bargains

Just a small rant - How many of you have seen on the internet people selling their model railway surpluses or sets due to the Covid Virus, sadly trying to raise cash because of no work, this is very, very sad indeed to have to resort to this. Looking on the dreaded E Bay, I have noticed that some pe...

Simulator

Been a while and after an unscheduled move of house I have to start all over again, made a few mistakes on last layout and vowed not to make them again, part of the curve. One thing I learned was to buy a good controller and that is where you good people come in, I had a Bachmann controller that IMO...

Vehicle Scale

Hello and a belated happy new year.
I am trying to build a timber yard but struggling to find a logging lorry with side bars, I have seen many examples but they are all 1/50 scale, is this acceptable on a 00 gauge layout, if not does any member know where I can get one.
Thanks
Ian

DCC Question

Still new to this, a friend of mine said why do you not go DCC instead of Analogue - pause OK what is DCC? so he sets of to explain, after 20 minutes I lost the will to live, seeing he lives in another country I could not ask him to pop round and show me. OK I get the idea but how do you wire it up,...

Re: Cheap Flock

Hi Dave, great idea never thought of sawdust, there is a wood yard just down from where I live and I often pop in to pick up scrap wood, thanks for the tip. PS great model. Ian Note, If anyone has a timber yard where they live it is a great source for scrap wood, just give them them a couple of quid...

Re: Cheap Flock

Hi John, I totally agree with your comments and to be honest if you are in a rush and want a quick fix then that is the way to go. As a hobby is it not more fun to make your own, to have the joy of seeing what you have created not by someone else, (scratch builders would agree with me), you can make...

Vandal Update

If you are interested then read on, if you are not interested do not read. The old thread has been locked but in my opinion members need to know what is going on with this tragic case, a case that shocked enthusiasts world wide. This is what I have read in my local paper.. The sentence of a fourth b...

Re: Wanton Vandalism of layouts

Going off topic slightly - Blimey, I thought railway enthusiasts were gentle folk with reduced testosterone, obviously reading some recent comments about this subject how wrong am I. My dad once said to me, if you do not like the programme on TV switch it off , suppose same goes with this topic, if ...
