Re: Peco Track still in Short Supply
I'm at the stage where I've more or less finalised my track plan for my Goods Depot layout ROBINSON ROAD. I thought I'd have a look what was on offer. After over half an hour on the web I gave up. I need 8 or 9 small radius left and right electrofrog turnouts in total. In all the big stores (Hattons...

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2
The baseboard is finished. I found some grey paint and gave it a couple of coats to finish it off. IMG_2208 - Copy.JPG I had a loose idea of the track plan I wanted but would it fit. First I decide what locos would bring the wagons into the yard and how many wagons. Locos would be medium size such a...

RAILS of Sheffield and Hornby
Just had an email from RAILS basically saying that after 35 years of trading with Hornby they are now unable to fulfill any pre-orders and get any of the out of stock models as well.

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2
Managed to get out into the 'Open Air Workshop' between the mini monsoons we've been having to finish off the baseboard. Had a little doodle on the plywood top to see what I could fit in track plan wise. Thought I need to print out some of those Peco point templates. Looked on a shelf in the layout ...

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2
Managed to find some ply for the baseboard top. I think finding the track and points may take a little longer. Wondering if I should use code 75 track this time.
I'll be able to produce some kind of track plan now.

Remaining exhibitions for 2020
I think we can safely say there won't be any exhibitions for the rest of 2020 if the virus comes in a second wave. Pity because 2 of my local big MREs happen in October and December. The Great Electric Train Show looks like it's been cancelled as they have started advertising the 2021 show at Milton...

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2
With enough timber to complete the baseboard frame I made a start. I still remember the time I did the baseboards for PETERSDALE (about 15 /16 years ago) and what an easy and enjoyable job it was in the school workshops. This baseboard frame would be completely different. The only space I could find...

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2
You can't keep a good idea down, it's 12 years since I pitched my layout at chest height, and for me it has no downsides. I operate it single handed so there's not much chance to sit down, and chest height gives a really good viewing height when standing, it equates to viewing it from a second or t...

Railway 'Fixtures and Fittings'
Not sure if this is in the right place. Mods moved if not please. After being relieved of painting duties in the recent renovation of the bathroom my wife took charge of purchasing the accessories, cabinet, shelves etc. One of the things she bought is in the picture below. She got it because she lik...

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2
I was finally released from my bathroom decorating duties at the weekend. It was time to go forth and see what timber was available at the local DIY stores. Wife went on a scouting mission to B&Q (she was returning something she'd bought) and came back with the news there was plenty of 2" x...

We had a mini monsoon yesterday. Really hammered it down. The layout shed roof is still in good nick after 15 years. Still no leals.

Thanks for posting Jim.
They were all in terrible condition and you have to give credit to the presevation groups who must have put 1,000s of hours getting them back in steam.

Re: ROBINSON ROAD GOODS DEPOT - Layout No.2
I'd been scouring the internet for some suitable buildings for the depot for quite a while. Finally I decided on some from a company called "In The Greenwood".They are constructed of 3mm ply. I want to upgrade the buildings on ROBINSON ROAD from the Metcalfe card models (as good as they ar...
