Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

This layout is coming along really nicely. The row of cottages look superb, they really look like they sit naturally in the landscape. I look forward to your future updates. Thanks for the comment skyblue. I'm playing catch up at the moment with the photos of the layout. Hopefully I'll be up to dat...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

THE BUILDINGS ON PETERSDALE Draughton Crossing Signal Box on the now closed Northampton to Market Harborough line. Kit still unopened after nearly 20 years. I now live in Northants at Raunds and the 3 original structures of the Prototype kits would have all been within 20 miles of me. Coincidence? ...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

THE ROW OF WORKER'S COTTAGES ON PETERSDALE. So the first area to acquire buildings would be the row of Worker's Cottages. It was when I built the first of these that I saw the light and decided to do the majority of the buildings on PETERSDALE from the Metcalfe range. My first effort really impresse...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

THE BUILDINGS ON PETERSDALE I had a firm plan for the buildings on PETERSDALE. They were going to be grouped, if possible in the same materials/manufacturer. A variety of plastic and card kits would be used. The station, signal box and goods shed would be Prototype Models LMS examples that I had bou...

Re: Millsend Layout - OO Gauge Sixties Midland

Hi Jim. Just wanted to say I'm enjoying your thread. As a relatively new member of the forum I was looking through the threads under construction and it must have been the word 'MIDLAND' that drew me to it. I think we may have the same railway roots. I like the way you've used the retaining walls. I...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

What superb scenery - I particularly like "The Church Pond" and "The Canal". With the latter it's only that faintest of creases that gives the backdrop away - and I only noticed the creases because I was trying hard to work out exactly where the backdrop started as it blends in ...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

No need for any comments beyond...this really is one of the very best. Thanks for the comments whynot. I think as far as vegetation and greenery are concerned these pictures are more or less up to date and dare I say finished. The next big development of course is the buildings. More to come soon. ...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

LAMPOSTS ON PETERSDALE. You may think I've overdosed on the final amount of lamposts (and telegraph poles) I have on PETERDALE (see later posts). I think I may have to agree with you. As I said in my last post I had a few packets of the Peco Gas Lamposts that travelled with me from the start of PETE...

PETERSDALE CONTINUES TO GROW. 053.JPG Looking up the platform the central area where the cottages and the strip of scrub land are situated have a base covering of scatter. Midland Railway style fencing has been erected along the footpath that is located between the running lines and the 'scrub'. The...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

MORE SCENIC DEVELOPMENT ON PETERSDALE. Hi Guys. I'd like to point out that I'm not spending 20 hours a day in the layout shed furiously doing the scenic areas on the layout at this moment in time. This current batch of pictures of progress on PETERSDALE are in fact from around June/July, so 5 months...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

You are making blinding progress on this layout! I love the canal scene. It really comes alive with the greenery on it. What are you planning on using for the water effect? Keep up the good work Thanks Dan Thanks Dan. Actually I'm playing catch up at the moment. The photos I'm uploading were taken ...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

SCENIC PROGRESS - THE CANAL. Another criteria for building PETERSDALE was to include little areas of interest. A canal was a must for me. Here in Derbyshire we have quite a few and in NE Derbys we have the Chesterfield Canal which is being restored at the Chesterfield end at this moment in time. The...

Pressed the 'submit' button too early so I'll continue.

The Church (Area F) has got it's base colour. The area (G) for the Workmen's cottages is at the 'free paper' layers stage. The scrub area (I) has been contoured and filled and the area (H) where the rock face will be is ready for it's first scatter covering. The road has received a coat of grey paint.

The area of the rock face is showing up as a darker brown area in this picture.

042.JPG
The whole area has been contoured and received it's base colour. Additionally The area for the Workmen's Cottages has now been covered with a sheet of Metcalfe's Cobblestones and the area of the rock face has been picked out with grey and black paint. Although not very clear in the background some of the stone walling has been built to enclose the Churchyard.

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Continuing the the theme scenic progress on my layout PETERSDALE. 038.JPG The fencing is RATIO. The trees and foliage is WOODLAND SCENICS. I think the WS trees are quite acceptable as an 'off the shelf' item. My only gripe with them is that because they are of moulded construction you only get the b...

Re: CMX TRACK CLEANER - Anybody got any opinions (Good or Ba

Hi, after reading the reviews I took the plunge and ordered one (about 4 years ago). I nearly choked at the cost, however, the first time you use it you'll know it was the right thing to do. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I even pressed some very old track into service, and after a quick rub ...
