Re: CMX TRACK CLEANER - Anybody got any opinions (Good or Ba

I have an N Gauge one and it has a Kadee at one end and a standard coupling on the other end so that I can use locos with either coupling. You do need a loco that has some weight to pull or push this around as the CMX itself being made of brass is quite heavy. In N Gauge I either use a Union Mills ...

SCENERY - The area (A, B and C) between the exit from the Fiddle Yard to the Canal in 5 steps.

029.JPG
Areas A and B rough contours. Area C finished contours and covered in layers of paper.

030.JPG
Areas A and B at final contours with filler. The back scene has sustained some damage which will have to be covered by bushes and trees.

031.JPG
Areas A, B and C finished to final contours with paper layers and final base colour applied. The upper track is the branch up to the colliery. The lower track is the branch back to the main line. In reality they are both destined for the fiddle yard.

032.JPG
All areas with final scatter cover. Area A with added (strategically placed) trees and bushes plus livestock. The 3 small rocky outcrops in lower part of picture are pieces of wood bark I collected for PETERSDALE version 1 over 25 years ago.

033.JPG
Area A with fencing and more greenery. Area B with Trees and undergrowth. The track has now been fully ballasted. Can you spot the Weasel bottom centre of the picture.

My wife keeps telling me the cows are to clean. I tell her they've just been through 'the cow wash.'

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

SCENERY Nothing exciting or innovative here I'm afraid. Firstly I decided to go green. I didn't think I'd got a large enough area to justify a ploughed field and decide on rolling hills and fields. There's lots of different ways to construct the contours of the land. Cardboard formers and newspaper....

Re: Duplicates: which loco class is most prominent on your l

I've got 6 - 4Fs going back to the Airfix GMR example from the 1970s.
4Fs are my favourite loco.
They use to provide the power for the majority of passenger services on the Mansfield/Worksop line when I was growing up in the 50s/early 60s.

CMX TRACK CLEANER - Anybody got any opinions (Good or Bad)?

Hi guys. I'm seriously thinking about getting this piece of kit but an undecided. CMX OO-HO.jpg On the one hand it looks like it makes easy work of cleaning layout track but on the other it does come with a pretty hefty price tag. Although I only have what would be described as a small/medium sized ...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

PLANNING SCENIC AREAS Okay back to the layout after my trip down memory lane. The track was laid and tested. The track had been ballasted between the rails. The station platform had been constructed. Scan_20151130a.jpg I produced a rough plan of the layout and split up the scenic areas on the layout...

Apologies for the mess in the last post.
Thought I'd got the hang of this but it appears not just yet.

WHITWELL STATION (The Final Chapter) Last few pictures of Whitwell Station during demolition. 15202034126_3e14e45b6a_o.jpg My route to work at the colliery came down the path on the right of the picture (just visible behind the bush in the lower right hand corner). Across the front of the station. D...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

COINCIDENCE On Saturday I took my yearly visit to the Warley Show at the Birmingham NEC. As usual it was packed with lots of traders etc. and again I wondered why I bother. Anyway on my way round a guy from the Hornby stand gave me a free copy of the Nov 15 Hornby magazine. Something to read when I ...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Great pictures, I love seeing "then and now" comparisons as it really gives context to the historical photo. Think the loop line on the right is still in place under the scenic scatter. Jim Yes I think you're right Jim it still looks like it's lurking there in the undergrowth. Another int...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

A LITTLE OFF TOPIC DIVERSION. As I said I was born in 52 and spent my childhood years watching the trains on the Worksop to Mansfield line. Actual rides on the line were usually restricted to visiting relatives in Mansfield who lived a short distance from the station. Of course these ceased in Novem...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

THE STATION PLATFORM I suppose the basics here are how long are your trains going to be and what size of building(s) are going to be used. The answer to the first question for me was long enough to accommodate a 3 coach passenger train and allow the engine to run round. On PETERSDALE'S travels I had...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

BACKSCENES Must admit this was the part of the layout construction I enjoyed the least. It was so frustrating and a couple of disasters occurred. The mistake was to fix the backscene boards to the baseboards before joining them together. After a bit of research on what backscenes were available I ch...

Re: MIDVILLE JUNCTION Modern 00 - new layout/updates page 1

Thanks for the welcome Dan. I had plenty of space when I was a Technology teacher at school. The workshops with all the machinery, tools and space were a god send when I had to build my 'Layout Shed' (albeit 2 sides and the roof). The school workshop was alsdo very helpful when constructing the base...

Re: MIDVILLE JUNCTION Modern 00 - new layout/updates page 1

Hi everyone, Just a quick hello and welcome to my new shed 6m x 3.6m (20 x 12). It is 2.1m / 7' to the eaves. I have ply lined/insulated it and sheeted the (insulated) roof with coroline. The PVC door is second hand from eBay. I have still got to run the electric to it and paint inside. Should be a...
