Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

PROFESSIONAL LOCO WEATHERING Hi guys, didn't really know where to put this so I thought I'd just stick it on the end of my layout thread. Now that PETERSDALE is at an advanced stage in it's construction (laughs quietly) my thoughts have turned to my rolling stock. We can buy some excellently detail...

Re: Garden shed do I or don't I?

Hi Yeoman. I've had experience of both building a layout in a loft and shed. The current version of PETERSDALE is in my 'layout shed' that I purposely built for it. My first version of Petersdale was in the loft of a house I lived in way back in the mid 80s. There are pros and cons with both situati...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Only recently realised that I do not actually have a Vicar for the Church. I'd better put him on top of my People Figures wanted list. Don't forget the church cat! :D The church is really starting to bed in nicely into it's surroundings. Thanks End2end Thanks for that. Much appreciated. I'm not goi...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

The Vicar's asked me to bring you up to date pictorially with progress at St. Peter's. IMG_0966 - Copy.JPG Red Vauxhall Wyvern. Classic green Morris Minor Traveller (no 50s/60s layout should be without one of these iconic cars). Black Ford Popular with windscreen sun visor. Grey Mark 1 Land Rover (A...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Thanks for the comments guys (The Chief, Pointstaken and Tractor37). They are much appreciated. I totally agree with you Chief. Way back when Petersdale version 1 was under construction back in the mid 80s I used a few Superquick kits (they don't seen to have changed at all over the years). For the ...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Off to the Derby exhibition tomorrow in search of churchyard related items (and see the layouts of course).
It's being held in the refurbished roundhouse of the Old Derby Works which is now part of a college.
Was a very good show last year and of course it's literally the train straight to the door.

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Further progress has been made in St. Peters churchyard. IMG_0892 - Copy.JPG IMG_0901 - Copy.JPG IMG_0917 - Copy.JPG As can be seen paving has been laid and weathered to make it look used. Random patches of weed are growing in the gaps of the paving. The churchyard has a base layer of scatter. Next ...

The water tower looks excellent Jim, as does the rest of the layout of course.

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Did a bit of experimentation with surface finishes for the church paths. IMG_0869.JPG The fine black cinders and dark grey paint are far too dark I think. The fine brown cinders looks good I think but totally inappropriate so I'm going with thee Metcalfe paving with random weeds growing in the gaps ...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Hi guys. Well after about a month of involvement in non model railway activities I've managed to sneak back into the layout shed this week. The 'BIG' decision has been made and 'St Peters Church' (what else did you expect me to call it?) has been built in the parish of Petersdale. I'd left the churc...

Re: Millsend Layout - OO Gauge Sixties Midland

Looking good as usual Jim.
The little details make the layout really interesting.
The point rodding and the little items on the back of the flat bed.
The signal box of course looks amazing.

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Two thoughts: 1. Have a lift out board so you can swap between either scene. You don't need to decide then. 2. Allotments are actually tricky things to model due to the variety of plants and vegetables. eg think about how you can model some runner beans or potatoes? That churchyard is quite a lot o...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

IMG_0129.JPG My wife had a good alternative idea. Turn the space into a small holding and have the local 'eccentric' living in a grounded coach body surrounded by his allotments and a few animals (pigs, chickens etc.) I must admit I really like the sound of that. I think that looks just about perfe...

Re: The story of PETERSDALE my OO gauge Branch Line layout

Thanks guys for all the replies. Seems like a 50:50 split in opinions but I'm still not convinced. The more I look at the pictures and think about the eccentric old guy with his pigs, chickens etc the more I'm leaning towards that. I think if the Church had been against the backscene (more in the ba...
