LED strip lighting over the layout

Past weekend remote controlled RGB LED strip lighting has been built over the layout. Works quite nice. More details and pictures can be found on the blog.

Traincontroller 37: Block Occupancy and Release Rules

In the previous video we had a look at how to create flicker free block occupancy with momentary sensors. I used the stop marker as the point where the occupancy was taken away again. This has two advantages: 1. It is possible to see if a train is still running in the block (occupied = on) or when i...

Traincontroller 36: Block Occupancy with Momentary Sensors

The block 'occupied' status and the corresponding highlight colour only appears as long as the block occupancy sensor is triggered. When working with momentary sensors, like I do with reed switches and magnets, the occupied status flickers as many times as the sensor triggers. Just because one reed ...

Six trains running around under Traincontroller

Today a lil video was created that show six trains running around on the layout under control of Traincontroller. A few lil 'tricks' have been used to get a smooth brake behaviour, whereby trains already slow down one block ahead, bot for schedules stops as for an anticipated red signal. Trains that...

Re: Rudys Model Railway

@V.R. Thanks for your kind feedback. Have done some 'scrap building' before, like these servo drives based on a paperclip and a plastic bread bag clip, of which there are 27 under the baord, and so far they all work reliably. http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=46835...

Rail side signals at just €0,05.

Adding signals to the layout would make it a bit more lively. I need 24. I thought the commercially available signals a bit too pricey at around €25,-. 3D printed DIY variants are available but still too expensive to My liking. I went on the look out if it would be possible to make reasonably lookin...

New software versions

New versions of Arduino and ATtiny DCC Function- and Accessory Decoders are available. DCC Function Decoder The possibility to use the direction of travel of the loc (forward or reverse) to switch two outputs has been added. This makes it possible to switch head and tail lights depending on the loc ...

DCC Function Decoder for Arduino and ATtiny

DCC Function Decoder for Arduino and ATtiny In previous posts on Arduino DCC Decoders I have been using the word 'function decoder', which has led to some confusion. The decoders posted so far are what I should have called accessory decoders. An accessory decoder listens to a DCC accessory address a...

DCC Sniffer – Packet Analyser with Arduino

DCC Sniffer – Packet Analyser with Arduino There are two Arduino DCC libraries floating on the Internet, Mynabay and NMRADCC. Both contain example code that lets them work as a DCC monitor. They show the DCC packets that are detected. However ... they are shown as numbers, which makes it rather diff...

Traincontroller 35: Fast Train Overtakes Slow Train

A quite common situation is that there’s a slow train at a station that wants to go on the move, but that an Intercity is approaching and you want to give this faster train priority to leave the station first. The trick here is to use a condition in the Route of the slow train that says the Block of...

Traincontroller 34: Internal versus External Signals

In the previous video we controlled a physical signal on the layout, using a signal symbol on the switchboard and connect it to a DCC address to control the hardware as well as connect it to an internal block signal for the switch logic. If following the internal signals is all the 'eye candy' you n...

Traincontroller 33: Physical Signals on the Layout

In can be nice to enhance a layout with physical signals, either just for some 'eye candy', or to get closer to a possible ideal to create a prototypical model railway. The blocks in Traincontroller have 'internal' signals by default. These are used by TC to control train traffic. Physical signals o...
