Re: Skyblue's Big 2015 Competition Thread - A Lowmac and a L

My current plan to extend this project is to look out for a suitable wagon kit (possibly another Lowmac or a GWR Macaw) at the show on Saturday to carry two 009 wagons that I bought years ago for a narrow gauge line on my layout that never materialised. Does anyone have any info on how (if at all) n...

It will be good to see this layout 'in the flesh' - looking forward to it.

Thanks for the encouraging comments. I hope to have this part of the entry finished fairly soon so I can make a start on whatever I may buy at the show.

Re: Not sure about joining my local model railway club.

Maybe the fact that the other members are all old is more reason for you to join - you might then be the catalyst for new, younger, members joining so that the club doesn't die out with the current members. Also remember that us young 'uns can learn a lot from older generations!

I think I will use Bachmann. Not Robin, ha ha.

As I said, don't limit yourself to one manufacturer. I think you will find it very hard to stick to and there is absolutely no benefit.

Re: Bachmann, Dapol, Heljan OR Hornby ?????

There is no single best manufacturer (and Heljan and Hornby don't manufacture in N - although yes there is the Hornby/Arnold Brighton Belle). There is absolutely no need to limit yourself to one manufacturer. Within a certain scale, all the manufacturers products are pretty much universally compatib...

It's good to see you posting on this thread again - it's been too long (but I admit you had a valid excuse :) ). I look forward to seeing the big changes and I hope they improve your enjoyment of the layout.

Re: What is the value in buying rolling stock kits?

For me, the true enjoyment of building a model railway comes from building the rolling stock to populate the layout. While I still look out for good value in a kit or potential project, I am prepared to pay as much for a kit as I might for an RTR product (I build coaches and wagons; I have never bui...

The tunnel portal looks excellent - apologies if you have mentioned this somewhere and I haven't seen it but how did you make it?

Re: Another new entrant: Sutton Locomotive Works

Has this been the busiest week ever for model railway announcements? It certainly seems so. I think this is the best way to do announcements - if possible wait until they are nearly ready, then announce them. Although I also understand the desire to build up 'hype'.
