Re: Skyblue's Big 2015 Competition Thread - A Lowmac and a L

I have now managed to get all of the transfers on successfully. One ended up a little washed out but it still looks OK. I will aim to post a picture tomorrow.

Re: Skyblue's Big 2015 Competition Thread - A Lowmac and a L

I brushed the varnish on 24 hours after it had been printed and the inks didn't appear to smear.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I hope to try out the varnished transfers later today and will report back on how they work.

Re: Skyblue's Big 2015 Competition Thread - A Lowmac and a L

Thanks PNP. No, the kits only come with provision for a sort of knuckle coupler unfortunately. Update on the transfers: I printed them off but when I tried to soak one of them all the ink ran. I have now varnished all the others and will try again tomorrow when the varnish is dry. The man who sold m...

Re: Skyblue's Big 2015 Competition Thread - A Lowmac and a L

Thanks Geoff. The wire coupling works OK generally but as you say it's useless for running them together. I think that in order to get the entry finished in time I will put a wire loop on the second Lowmac and I will find a more permanent and suitable arrangement later.

Re: Skyblue's Big 2015 Competition Thread - A Lowmac and a L

The second Lowmac and the Bedford QLT are coming along nicely: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DWGIbaOPTzA/Vnl7gGKnOZI/AAAAAAAABEg/mBDJv3Fuhpw/s640-Ic42/SAM_4743.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-YjED1O3YENA/Vnl7oGHJAaI/AAAAAAAABEo/cdw0aeFj2nE/s512-Ic42/SAM_4744.JPG And the 13T wagon has had...

Re: Skyblue's Big 2015 Competition Thread - A Lowmac and a L

I am currently in the process of making some decals for the 13T wagon and others that I may build in the future. I will aim to give an update tomorrow on how well (or otherwise) they have worked.

Re: My (N gauge) table football layout!

The cliff face looks excellent. The colour of the rock is very effective and the shrubs growing in the cracks really add realism.

Not a vast amount of coal on show, but it is supposed to be a coal merchant's yard:

And the next photo will have an engine shed with a loco in it.

This is coming along very nicely. The lining on the tender frames is particularly impressive.

No Parkside Dundas come with everything except paint and transfers. Dapol always include transfers, and Ratio generally do.

Re: What is the value in buying rolling stock kits?

Dapol are generally a bit cheaper and are more widely available. In my opinion the Ratio kits are generally better moulded, detailed and the range of prototypes is greater. Don't discount Parkside Dundas, they are no harder to build than Dapol or Ratio and the range is far more extensive than either...
