Re: Bachmann class 24 light operation

I have the class 24 from a few years ago. The lights change from white to red on both ends depending on direction. I assume yours is DCC? The irony with lights as I have described is that you would only show red tail lights if the loco was running light. Even then, up to sometime in the 70's, the ta...

Re: Mainline 78XX Manor Conversion

Oh dear, there really isn't the space to go into the details of the build. You should read Comet's download about building their chassis as a first step. The instructions seem a bit basic and are bogged down by the various ways of assembly. From the pictures It looks to me like you've gone too far b...

Re: Mainline 78XX Manor Conversion

My word, you have been busy. Did you check the chassis for running yet?

Re: LMS Coronation Coaches. What are the options?

Good find VV. Pricing seems similar to Comet. I'll be interested to know what you think. I'd like to know more about the kits. How are the roofs made? Are the sides etched brass or aluminum? Where do the bogies come from and what materials?

I hope not, for their sake  The books are pretty good, however.

Re: Jekyll and Hyde, the two faces of Hornby

I'd be interested to see how sales go for Hornby's 4F from now on. Granted, it's slightly different from Bachmann's new one (LMS built as opposed to Bachmann's Midland built one), but Hornby are still charging about £20 more than Bachmann for a substantially less detailed model of basically the sam...

Re: Jekyll and Hyde, the two faces of Hornby

I have one of those, the body seems to be about right, despite the windows (Finecast may do a flushglaze pack). I put Kadees on (#16s for the long shank), fitted a flexible gangway and metal wheels. I take your point though, as boxed, it is not worth the price.

Re: Jekyll and Hyde, the two faces of Hornby

I think you have it back to front - Jekyll was the mild mannered Arthur Putey type. http://pythonline.com/media/i-am-arthur-putey Hyde was, well, quite the opposite. Did you see "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"? Nevertheless, I think an apt description of Hornby. Sometimes they amaz...

Re: LMS Coronation Coaches. What are the options?

You will be aware, Matt, that the Comet site has pictures of most of the coaches in the range (as well as instructions for each kit), so it might be possible from that to compare the Hornby coaches to see where the differences are. Of course a photo of a model is not what the experts call "a pr...

You're right Matt - my bad. Should be Diag 1905 (according to the Wiki link) and the kit is M43.

Re: LMS Coronation Coaches. What are the options?

Indeed you did Stuart. As I was reading the story of the Coronation, I was thinking how complicated it was. I'm sure the complete story would fill a book all by itself.

Re: LMS Coronation Coaches. What are the options?

Thanks Zunnan, there was a Wiki link earlier in the thread that had different Diagrams for some of the coaches in the 1937 set than Essery & Jenkinson.

Re: LMS Coronation Coaches. What are the options?

Wow VV, what have we done? I hope you'll keep us advised as to your progress. John I will be going to the Scale Four Society show at the end of September so I will keep my eyes peeled there. After that I will be on the internet and phone to see what kit / conversion stuff is available. Lucky you, I...
