Re: Annie and Clarabel are not correct coaches for Thomas

having read all of the good rev's stories about thomas hundredds of timei can say that they were controlled by the drivers, but they took more of a backset role in driving them and left it to the engines. having said that though, i agree with ollie, i think the market it is aimed at hornby isn't exp...

Re: Child Operators

what i find a bit strange, from a child's piont of view (i'm 13, but remember going up in the loft for trains since 3) is when i go to exhibitions i find peoples grandchildren helping out and being far too boring about it. i overheard a child about 9 years old reeling off pretty much everything ther...

Re: decoupling

Re: not enough southern railway info and locos

thank you everyone for being so helpful, as i said before, i was just surprised how little anything on southern railways had travelled outside that region, not even to the south west. looked at all websites and going to place an order for a couple of books but as ever am short of money at the moment...

Re: Free Black Soot Weathering

Wood is very acidic. (That's why paper goes brown.) Could damage your models if there's still acid left in the carbon. It's not as if proper weathering powders or pastels will break the bank. sorry, should have been more clear, i was considering just using it on the ground around the station yard, ...

Re: not enough southern railway info and locos

my local library is useless because of how it works. it shares its bookes with three other libraries which means there is never a whole series. i cancelled my membership, if that is what you call it. but my schol library might be worth a try, one librarian there is nice and helpful, the others are s...

Re: Free Black Soot Weathering

sorry to drag this up agai, but what is wrong with crumbling burnt wood gone black up? you can get more, you can have a ice warm fire whilst doing it, and you get just the same amount of mess and inhaling probelms! plus it doesn't set fire as a powder. i crumbled some up with my hands, then sieved i...

Re: not enough southern railway info and locos

i have honestly looked, and the amount of models seems limited, and books on southern railway a lot less as well. i do understand though that the souhtern locomotives were not built to last and as a result have all packed up and died :(
